Well, English is my second language. This book includes plenty of topics enough for english learner to further understand the usage of vocabularies in a much more down-to-earth level. However, some explanations are too basic for learning, you better re-check those meanings with a reliable dictionary.

This book does not include cd or cassetes but it is very organized and has as its name says an advanced vocabulary(a good option for the CAE Examination)

It is a great book in fact, but be aware for what it calls 'advanced'. The vocabulary presented in this book is great for an academic student but almost useless for people who want to improve the day-by-day vocabulary. For those I'd recommend the less advanced books. The words you will find in this book will definitely help you in college but won't make a difference in your routine out of college.

I'll give it four stars because the unclear description of the program fails to specify what I mentioned above.

In my work teaching ESL, I have had the opportunity to use this book (it is available at the center where I teach). The vocabulary is OK, but beware using the book if your students are from countries in which "democratic" values are not universally shared. The written examples take for granted that the learners share the redistributionist ethic of England, where the book is published.

This otherwise praiseworthy book is marred by the failure of the author(s) to take into account that not everyone grew up in -- or shares the values of -- England.

This is the excellent book, however, I haven't received the one with purple cover that's being advertised here, but the one with green cover. I believe this is the American edition of the same book. The paper is not of the same quality, nor is the cover itself, so get the British edition if you can. Same thing goes for the Advanced Grammar in Use. Some units were even skipped in the American edition of AGIU. Other than that, very useful book.
