I have a new RokuXS which a Netflix (or Roku) support person said has cc for a feature. Can someone tell me how I access the c captions when I stream a movie??? Should I see a menu somewhere...or what? Thanks for any advice you can give me on this. Thanks.

Roku2 was promoted as having cc on Netflix. You should see a button for cc and HD stereo 5.1 when you select a show. As of today these features are NOT available on most Netflix programs. I bought a new XS last week so I could view subtitles on Netflix. Not happening. I spent a considerable amount of time with Roku support & got nowhere. Seems to me like Netflix is blaming Roku and vice versa. I am returning my Roku and may replace it with another wii. (Wii subtitles are working fine for me.) Please research carefully if you are hearing impaired and considering this unit.

I went to Hulu.com's website and yes, it supported CC on Roku. (http://www.hulu.com/support/article/354280). I checked at Netflix.com and it didn't say it supported CC on Roku but did have an online chat with Netflix Specialist and he said it does now. Not too sure. Robert B.? Does it works well?? (I mean CC on english spoken movies, NOT foreign movies)

It was Netflix's decision to use a stream technology that they put CC with that required Roku to upgrade their hardware to be able to utilize. Closed captioning is available on Hulu Plus with the Roku 1 units, but in order to receive them from Netflix the Roku 2 units are the only option. It's NF's decision to not send CC to the Roku 1 units and that's likely not going to change

The Netflix site says cc are available on the XS but they are not working for me. I've tried the same program that I can watch on my PC with cc but no cc on the Roku. I bought the Roku specifically to be able to watch Netflix with cc without having to hook my computer up to my receiver/TV. In addition, the picture quality may be better via my computer than via Roku although this issue may be due to a current problem with my internet service. I'll be returning the Roku if tech support can't fix tomorrow.

Roku works very well and cc works on both Netflix and Hulu Plus. Okay, not all of the shows on Netflix are cc. Just go to Phlixies (links up to netflix's cc show database) and u'll find a lot of movies and tv series with cc. Heck, I watched Spartacus in cc and still am. Works fine for me. Roku rocks.
