I was privileged to know this inspirational gentleman who sadly died earlier this year (please google him for many obituaries from British press and tv). Leon devoted his life to telling his story and fighting facism as he had vowed to G-d he would do if he survived. Leon was awarded the OBE for his life's work. He lived modestly and although he had many friends, and had a most amazing presence and charisma, I really believe he had a melancholy and lonely heart and never got over losinghis beloved wife Esther and son Barney- read his story, tell it to all who will listen - this is the best tribute to this giant of a 5' man.

I first read the book Remembering: Voices of the Holocaust by Lyn Smith. There were several quotes from Leon Greenman as well as photographs of Leon, his wife and small son. I was intrigued by Leon Greenman's statements so read his book, An Englishman in Auschwitz. I definitely recommend this book. It is a straight forward and moving account of his days at several concentration camps along with a multitude of characters he encountered. His story is amazing and so vivid. Even more amazing is his years afterwards spent devoted to telling others his story and fighting for social justice.
