A story of a small Welsh village and two 'Englishmen' from the Ordinance Survey who have come to measure the height of the local high point, which they term a hill to the outrage of the villagers, who take extraordinary steps to upgrade their hill to a mountain and romance enters the life of the younger of the Englishmen. Altogether a gentle and entertaining read.

What a great book! I have seen the movie several times and last week when I watched it again, I noticed that the film was based on a book! What a happy surprise. I ran right out and got the book and couldn't put it down! The movie follows the book to a "T." If you've loved this gentle, delightful movie, then I assure you, you will enjoy the book just as much, or even more! I promise you won't be disappointed. I only wish Mr. Monger would write more!
