5.0 out of 5 stars Black/death/gothic metal crossover, August 22, 2004
Cradle of Filth may have started the whole Gothic Black Metal thing, but it's bands like Graveworm that are the true masters of it. The sound of Engraved in Black would best be described by imagining the sound of Cradle of Filth's heavier stuff, minus the female vox, spoken word parts and over abundant keyboards, mixed with death metal. This results in a darkly ambiant sound that still manages to be damn heavy. The vocals are worthy of talking about also. Sometimes high pitched shrieks like Dani Filth or deeper death metal vox. Reminds me somewhat of the Black Dalia Murder's vocal transitions. Also they sometimes go for the dual vox that Deicide does. They could do a lot more with this and maybe they do on their newer album, Scourge of Malice (haven't heard it yet). Overall this is an awesome album that most black metal fans will enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER GRAVEWORM CLASSIC!, January 18, 2005

(REAL NAME)
If you like symphonic but heavy death/black metal then this is the band for you. This particular release is a little more straight forward and less dreamy than previous releases. I am not as wild about the sound of this album. The keys are a little further in the background and not as abundant. Neverthless the music is great and I really like this vocalist a ton.

One thing I like about graveworm is their lyrics and vocal delivery really stand out and hit you with impact.

Overall, I like all of Graveworm's previous releases better than this one but this is still Graveworm and still great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow..., April 1, 2004
By A Customer
I am surprised more people haven't heard these guys. In this cd they have Black metal vocals and death metal vocals going on at the same time. If you like Dimmu Borgir you will probably like these guys. Pick this cd up now.
