Progressive Metal with Latin/Hispanic Roots,
By Seven (U.S.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Enigma (Audio CD)
Ill Nino again shows that latin music is not limited to Hip Hop, Pop, Rap or even Reggaton. With lyrics crossing both in Spanish and English you get a rich mix of deep meaning and heart felt songs. Unlike one reviewer who mentioned the music was tribal percussion...which it is NOT. The percussion grabs from a lot of hispanic cultures and sounds. Influences from Salsa (Puerto Rican), Merenge (Cuban), Bachata (Dominican) even Flamenco(Spain)which is Spanish guitar, permiate the sound. If you don't know those styles of music then it would really help you appreciate if you listening to such music then get back to ILL NINO. You'll see what I mean. Other influences come from Central and South American Guitar as well...and more. They are inspired and grab from all flavors of latin music... and yet again it shows that Latins and Latin music can go anywhere to breath life into a style of music and make it something new!!!

Roots bloody roots,

This review is from: Enigma (Audio CD)
Ill Nino's Enigma is finally released after being delayed countless times since last summer, and i was almost about to give up on it. Fortunately, i didnt and ill nino delievers. Bringing in more of the tribal percussion form the acoustic ep, Enigma is both brutal, and artistic. tracks like Compulsion Of Virus And Fever, March against Me, and Finger Painting show off the sound, while giving direhard fans enough nostalgia to get into it. Was it worth the wait? Yes, and if this album is any indication, Ill Nino have found their roots, and their very bloody.
