After making the "Mini-ficent Pancakes" for breakfast this morning, and having my non-allergic husband come in and say, "Which ones are mine?" I was reminded that I had to come and write a review for this book. The pancakes look so appealing, you could not tell the difference between the allergen-free ones and the just add water ones I was also making for the rest of the family.
I have two children with multiple, severe, food allergies, among them wheat, gluten, dairy, soy, and corn, which any allergy mom knows, excludes seemingly all baking ingredients, and many of their usual substitutes. Prior efforts at pancakes and other desserts were so complex (unknown and hard to find long lists of ingredients), time-consuming, and ugly/poor tasting, that it had been a while since I even attempted making any treats for my two "bubble babies" :)
In contrast, this book has simple (few ingredients), easy-to-follow, and tasty recipes that allow you for onces to feel adequate in feeding your kids something they are begging for and able to enjoy. My kids got to see what it was like for their non-allergic sister to be asking for their food/treats, instead of the other way around. At Thanksgiving, they could have sugar cookies (that they helped decorate) and pumpkin pie, rather than having no dessert at all.
If you know the frustration of trying to cook for people with allergies, this book will be a breath of fresh air and renew your hope and energy in trying to make life and food a little more "normal".

My son is allergic to eggs, wheat, soy, corn, fish, milk and peanut. For the last 4 or 5 years I have tried several cookie recipes and they always end up as tooth breaker cookies so I have to throw them away. I have used Enjoy Life's products so I figured I would give it a try. I have made the brownies, the choc chip bannana bars and one of the drop cookie mixes and they all were excellent. The drop cookies are still soft 2 days later, which I could never get to happen with other recipes. I would highly recommend this book for any mom who wants to be able to make cookies that you can send to school for your child's class parties, b day's etc.

We have been following a gluten and casein free diet for our sons for 9 years and have come to love and trust the Enjoy Life products. What a joy to discover this book--an amazing contribution to our repertoire of desserts, without having to make conversions from conventional to alternative ingredients. The recipes are simple and use familiar ingredients. Our daughter is becoming a more confident and successful baker with these yummy treats! Would love a cake book too!!

You won't need any other cookie book if you have a child with allergies. We did OK with recipes for our family when we went gluten free but when my son was diagnosed with a gluten, dairy and egg allergy I didn't know what I would make or how I would do it. It was around this time that Enjoy Life released this book and I ordered it after it was recommended to me by a friend. Now I have purchased it for someone with an autistic child and recommend it regularly. We have made the chocolate chip cookies, graham crackers (awesome!), swirled brownies, ginger snap cookies and more. Every single recipe has turned out well and tasted great. The other thing I liked about this cookbook is that the recipes are not complex. Most use just brown rice, white rice, sorghum and rice bran. You don't need to be an expert baker to make them. I can't recommend this book enough.

I've made almost all of the drop cookie recipes now, and every one has turned out fabulously. Even flavors I don't typically life, like banana, are welcome additions to these cookies. Skip the other cookbooks, buy this one for cookies kids will actually eat and non-Celiac folks will enjoy.

Of course, we have already loved the Enjoy Life brand since we discovered it a couple of years ago. My child has multiple food allergies and it's always a challenge to find new recipes that she can eat yet are tasty. This book is fantastic, because there are pictures of each recipe, a resource section of where to find ingredients, and there are tons of different recipes including those for classic "normal" cookies (i.e. chocolate chip, sugar, etc.) I would highly recommend this book to anyone with food allergies. It's a keeper!

I wanted to like this book, but I've only ever tried one recipe from it. It turned out fine and all, but I felt horrible serving those cookies to my kids because they were nothing but starch and sugar! I know, if I want healthy food I should go eat a carrot. I get it. It's a cookie cookbook. But seriously, these cookies are seriously nutrient-deficient and wreak havoc on blood sugar.

I bought this book when I found out we had to go gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free (and avoid several other food categories) due to kids' food allergies/intolerances. This was what I bought in panic because I HAD to be able to make cookies for my kids! And we do like Enjoy Life boxed cookies from the grocery store, so I thought this would be a great cookbook to have. I just never use it because I've since discovered other GF, DF, SF cookbooks out there (especially Alissa Segersten's cookbooks, or Tammy Credicott's The Healthy Gluten-Free Life) that actually contain healthy whole food ingredients instead of just starch and sugar. Plus, the treats in those other books are every bit as tasty as these, and don't send my kids' blood sugar through the roof.

Tasty? Yes, if you have a serious sweet tooth. Allergen-free? Yes. Can I feel good about giving these treats to my kids? No, not really.
