A-Teens Are Gone But Their Music Lives On!,
By
This review is from: Enjoy the Ride (Audio CD)
Even though it was official that the A*Teens have made their permanent split in 2005, that infectious beat that we have all fell in love with back in 1999 with the Abba Generation makes its way back in our hearts in 2006. After Dhani's abrupt departure from the music scene after his hit single "Girl Talk," Marie Serneholt has decided to command the stage once more with her irresistible debut, "Enjoy the Ride."
While some may think that the title of the record is a request, the songs are far from making this album an understatement. Leading off the album is the infectious "Enjoy the Ride," as Marie demands listeners "work with the beat." The versus are kinda slow, but when the chorus takes charge, it is musical bliss. "Wasted Love," follows the indie kind of beats which makes Marie sound more like Abba then the A-Teens. Third from the album is her debut single, "That's the Way That My Heart Goes," which peaked at No. 2 in Sweden. Taking a cue from Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Outta My Head," once the song begins with it's dumdadumdumdeedeedee it's hard to stop listening. The man voice in the background after the choruses is something reminiscent of the A-Teens work, which makes the song more appreciated. Throwing back to the 80's is "I Need A House," Marie's bubbly rock tinged single that has currently peaked at the Top 40 in Sweden. What really makes this song is the lyrics, ("I need a room to sleep in, I need a coffee and a kitchen sink,") Lyrically, the song sounds silly, but Marie's vocals blend perfectly with the guitars and euro bobs and beeps. "Beyond Tonight," is the first ballad off the album and is very laid back, which kind of throws off the album. Nonetheless, it's a very good song with some interesting lyrics, ("This ain't no one man show, no solitary game.") The lyrics sound more mature for Marie coming from songs like "Oh...Oh Yeah from the A-Teens 'Pop Til You Drop' album. "I Love Making Love In The Morning," is my favorite song on the album because it feels like Marie let's her hair hang down. Some argue that this song sounds provocative but she gets away with it. The lyrics gently scratch the service of being provocative like "I love making love in the morning, your breath against my skin," the beats are playful and Marie sounds like she is really having fun with this upbeat pop number. "Boy I Used To Know," brings Marie full force into the pop scene of *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys. The songs has sort of a dark beat and the chorus once again features a male voice which makes this again sound like a perfect A-Teen's song. It would be awesome if all four of them could get together to sing this song. Every album has a weak, filler song and to me it's "Calling All Detectives." The lyrics are definately clever, ("Calling all detectives, calling CSI...evidence never lies,") but the way that it is spoken and not sung during the song ruins its momentum. "Can't Be Loved," is another soft ballad but it is not a strong as "Oxygen," which is simply Marie's best effort vocally. From the whimpsical oh's during the chorus to its lyrics ("I get so high up here, I can hardly breathe, I need oxygen,") this song is soothing and the perfect way to end an album. It's a shame that the album overall only peaked at No. 9 in Sweden and quickly fell of the charts. It is definately a strong debut with a few minor drawbacks. The album is short of songs, only rounding off at 10. Secondly, Marie has blossomed into an extremely gifted song writer, yet her talents were not contributed to this album. After co-writing the latin infectious song "Cross My Heart," and the tender acoustic ballad, "In The Blink of An Eye," it would have been interesting to see what she could have written here. Oh well, I guess why there are sophomore albums, right?

Marie Sernebolt made her start 5 years ago in the world wide hit makers The A*teens...Now broken up, she is striking out on her own with her first solo release "Enjoy the Ride". The album, while not being daring or contriversal like so many other pop stars out there, is wonderfully put together and a joy to listen to.
1. Enjoy the Ride 4/5- Great opener to the album, catchy and fun. 2. Wasted Love 3/5- Well written song, lags a bit by the middle. 3. That's The Way My Heart Goes 5/5- First single pulled from the album, dancey, very much Britney Spears' older style of pop 4. I Need A House 5/5- Second single, kind of campy and cheesy but something to roll the windows down and sing to in the car. 5. Beyond Tonight 5/5- Amazingly beautiful song, totally single worthy, the ballad shows off Marie's voice well. 6. I Love Making Love In The Morning 3/5- Ok song, the beats and lyrics do not match at all...trying to turn a sex song into something happy and campy...blah. 7. The Boy I Used To Know 5/5- Awesome dance song, really catchy lyrics and echoes...single worthy 8. Calling All Detectives 4/5- A lot of people dont like this song but I think it is really catchy and well written, love the sound effects in the background. 9. Can't Be Loved 5/5- Great song, kinda latin in style, reminds me a lot of Thalia's newer stuff. 10. Oxygen 4/5- Another beautiful ballad, sorta corny but Marie sounds amazing. All in all the album is worth the import price...A*teens fans will love it as most of the songs are very much like their work. At 10 tracks the cd is kind of short, I am hopeful that Marie will rerelease the CD with more tracks later and hopefully in the States!! If you love a cd that u can just pop in and enjoy singing to while makin your day a little happier, then "Enjoy the Ride" is one of the best pop albums of 2006, cant wait to hear more from Marie!!

BEAUTIFUL GODDGESS AWAKENS FROM SWEDEN!,

Marie Sernieholt is a profoundly amazing artist that with the right marketing, will flourish among American pop culture. Hopefully, people will wake up and realize the full potential that Marie has at her dispoal just waiting to be released, as she does in her first album. Her single,"Thats the way my heart goes," is a "Better than Britney" Powerhouse. It would definately be popular in America if we give her a chance. She is far more beautiful and talented than some of the girls given a chance in the states.

'That's The Way My Heart Goes' (upbeat dance song...probably the most instantly catchy on the disc; has a very stilted rhythm and sing-song chorus that is very sexy), 'Beyond Tonight' (moody syth-piano love/ sad song that is very atmospheric), 'I Love Making Love In The Morning' (has a very eighties "I swear they sampled Culture Club's Karma Chameleon" kind of feel; This is a song that makes you feel good about being in a relationship), 'Boy I Used To Know' (a very girl empowerment kind of song; harmless, meaningless pop). The rest of the CD is good, but nothing you couldn't live without.

Even though a lot of people dismissed A*Teens as just a flash in the pan, they went on to sell over 9 million records worldwide, and some of their singles went Top 10 in several European countries. When their first record of Abba covers came out, I did not like them much, but their next albums of original material were catchy and fun. Marie Serneholt's album does not disappoint. First single "That's The Way My Heart Goes" is bubblegum pop at its best, and so is the groovy "I Need A House." Other highlights include the title track, "The Boy I Used To Know" and "Wasted Love." The sultry "I Love To Make Love In The Morning" sounds like culled off from Emma Bunton's gem "Free Me." A great CD overall!!

Haha this cd is stupid at first, but damn it grows on you.,

This review is from: Enjoy the Ride (Audio CD)
I didn't like it at first but man does it grow on you. My absolute favs are "That's the way that my heart goes", "I need a house", and "Enjoy the ride". It's definately worth a buy. If you loved ATeens this is just as good. Reminds me of ATeens lol, so I gave it 4 starts simply because some of the songs are downright sucky.
Good for a first album as a solo artist.

Suprised Me,
By
This review is from: Enjoy the Ride (Audio CD)
This album really suprised me because I am a huge Sara Lumholdt fan who was the other female member of the A*teens but when I heard this CD I was impressed by Marie's choices
Thats The Way My Heart Goes- 5/5 definitley one of the best of the album great single choice Enjoy The Ride- 5/5 Should've been the big single, it is sooo catchy and fun... the best song on the album Wasted Love- 2/5 Not the best but certainly not the bad. It doesn't compare to the other 9 tracks I Need A House- 3/5 I think Boy I Used To Know or Can't Be Loved would be better choices for a single, but very catchy and fun Calling All Detectives- 2/5 The weakest song on the album and very cheesey the song I skip over the most when listening Boy I Used To Know- 4/5 Very catchy, and good lyrics. It is another song that maybe should've been a single Can't Be Loved- 4/5 This song is sooo good it should definitley be released as a single I Love Making Love In The Morning- 5/5 Sooo catchy, and I just love this songs naughty side because it is still sooo playful Beyond Tonight- 5/5 The better ballad.. don't get me wrong I love oxygen but this song is alot nicer Oxygen- 4/5 A very touching ballad and very catchy Over all this album delivers and I love it (but not as good as A*TEENS)

FABULOUS!!,

This album is fabulous! Marie Serneholt is a very nice singer with a lucious and dulcet voice. The album, which is produced and co-written by Swedish music god Jörgen Eloffson; the very same person that worked his wonders on Britney's monster of a debut album.
Well this time he's back and he's instilled his more of a mature sound on former A*Teens member Marie. The result is a wonderful listening experiance with pop gems and touching ballads. 1. Enjoy The Ride- I have no idea what the instruments that are being used here are called, but they are amazing! They sound like sexy toned-down, almost muffled horns that create this very sensous sound. This feel-good song makes you feel sexy from the very begining and it'll be one of your favorites for sure. 10/10 2. Wasted Love- One of my favorites! this song is about her wasting her emotions and feeling over a guy that was cheating on her. I love the lyrics and the tone. 10/10 3. That's The Way My Heart Goes- Pop Music at it's best, great lyrics and harmonies. 10/10 4. I Need A House- Very upbeat, great song. 9/10 5. Beyond Tonight- WOW! this song is phenomenal, right from the very begining you can tell you're on to something good. 10/10 6. I Love Making Love In The Morning- Very Nice- 8/10 7. The Boy I Used To Know- I love this song, i sing along to this one all the time! 10/10 8. Calling All Detectives- Another one of my favorites, this song is so cool. I ASOLUTELY LOVE IT!! 10/10 9. Can't Be Loved- Cool song, nice instruments and arrangements. 9/10 10 Oxygen- This song is so beautiful, the lyrics and the vocals are perfect. I introduced this song to a friend of mine, and she loved it so much that her and her husband slow danced to it on their wedding. It's so simple yet meaningful, and the ending of the song is amazing, it gives me chills. 100/10 My Faves 1. Oxygen 2. Beyond Tonight 3. Wasted Love 4. Enjoy The Ride 5. Calling All Detectives But this album, you won't be dissapointed!! |
