4.0 out of 5 stars Good biology intro for little ones, March 5, 2008
By

I got this book for my 5-year old. It's a little advanced for her, but she loves it and it getting an intro into some biology concepts, including cell structure and fetal development. Also, it gives her an introduction to some biology words like DNA, protein, cytoplasm, and cell membrane. Includes four pages with diagrams of different types of cells (skin, hair, pigment, gland, muscle, nerve, bone, blood, etc). I also like how the author explains how cells are the same in people and animals, different in plants. Illustrations are very colorful and eyecatching.

As a practicing molecular biologist, I loved this book. It generated a lot of enthusiasm in my daughter for biology. We bought the whole series and would highly recommend it for young kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very colorful and informative, July 3, 2010
Does an excellent job of detailing specialized cells. This text goes through the entire process of sperm combining with egg producing a zygote and the development of an embryo. I read this book to my three year-old daughter, and she was amazed at the development--she even noticed that the 'baby' did not have ears! The images are very colorful that keep their attention.

This text also compares cells of different animals such as plant, dog, and cat. I also noticed that the concepts taught in this book correlate to the AAAS Atlas for appropriate concept development (they say age range up to 9). This is appropriate for my children to bridge the gap between elementary school and high school ( I teach high school biology).
