5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Sequel, May 8, 2009
This review is from: The Enlightened Gardener Revisited (Hardcover)
Another profound and powerful book by Mr. Banks, this sequel is no less fascinating than the original Gardener story. It is mysterious how such simple and gentle stories can have such strong impact. Many in the helping professions share these books with clients, with transformational results. It's impossible to explain what happens, but somehow veils are lifted and truth emerges, from within one's own self. I am very grateful that these books have been written.

Syd Banks approach to "psychotherapy" is that you are already healthy. His three principles, Mind, Consciousness, and Thought; when applied can help people suffering from depression, anxiety, and other "emotional brain disorders". The primary thesis of his work is that when one is sufferring from depressive thoughts or other mentally incapacitating thoughts, the "patient" learns to realize that these are simply "thoughts". The thoughts are not reality and they only have power over a person if the person allows them to. In other words, once one recognizes that what ails them is simply a thought then they can elect to acknowledge it as simply a thought and not give it power to control one's feelings.

Banks' philosophy is based upon living in the moment. The concept is that right now all there is, is this moment; the past is dead and the future is imagined. If we "worry" about what the future may bring or what happened in the past we are making ourselves sick. At any given moment we have everything we need to be happy and to enjoy life.

It's beyond the scope of these reviews to really grasp the concept of Syd Banks work. For more information, here's a Website to a group that specializes in helping people benefit from the three principles: [...]

I've worked with this group and I've had so much more success with them than the typical psychologist therapy. If you are troubled with depression, anxiety, suffering from a divorce, or just feel the need for therapay, either marriage counseling or individual "therapy" I highly recommend this methodology. There are many other groups around the country that use Banks' principles to help people. The link I've provided is one to a group that's near where I live.

If you're troubled look into it and read the first book too: The Enlightened Gardener.

5.0 out of 5 stars Psychology as Science, January 8, 2010

This review is from: The Enlightened Gardener Revisited (Hardcover)
In our lifetime Sydney Banks became aware of the three natural laws from which all human experience is created and sustained. As a result of his discovery, psychology evolved and revealed it's simplistic - scientific nature. Banks will go down in history as the father of modern psychology. Get ahead of the curve and read anything you can get your hands on. His life was a mirror reflection of what he taught.
