This review is from: The Enlightenment of Joseph Priestley: A Study of His Life and Work from 1733 to 1773 (Paperback)
This is the first volume of a wonderful two volume set on Joseph Priestley. The second is called The Enlightened Joseph Priestley and covers the second half of his life. Taken together, they are the definitive biography of a true Renaissance man of the 18th century. As a minister, he was an early leader of the unitarian movement in England and the United States. As a scientist, he is recognized as the discoverer of oxygen. As a supporter of the early United States, he was a good friend of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. These books present a comprehensive study of his life and are well worth reading by anyone wanting to know more about this very interesting man.
