Bone-crunching beats, apocalyptical electro hymns and very energetic live appearances… hailing from Germanys real industrial heartland, the former coal and steel centers of the Ruhr area, [:SITD:] made a name for itself a while ago, and can be counted amongst the most acclaimed electronic projects of the present international club ... Editorial Reviews

The deluxe, limited edition boxset version contains: postcards, a button, a sticker, and a bonus CD with over 60 minutes of extended electronic terror! After a chasm of almost four years, one of the most influential American Electro/Industrial bands of the last 15 years, Mentallo & The Fixer broke the silence earlier this year with the mind-boggling EP Commandments For The Molecular Age, forecasting the band's second phase of electronic anger. Having always been projecting himself into the future throughout his impressive career and discography, Gary Dassing once again carries us away from the beaten path, bringing us this time closer to the darkest side of the Moon than to the core of the Earth. Avant-garde per definition and dense and powerful per nature, Mentallo & The Fixer's new album offering is challenging the listener with its ultra-complex synth arrangements layered on devastating upbeat sequencer rhythms and haunted distorted vocals. Enlightenment Through A Chemical Catalyst is one hell of an album. It will make your head turn and will guarantee many disturbing listenings! Take up the challenge for yourself and dive into the extreme environment of this album that will definitely appeal to hardcore fans of Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, and Ministry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compelling, Complex, Surprising March 4, 2007
Format:Audio CD
I've had a love-hate relationship with M&TF over the years -- loved "Where Angels Fear to Tread," "Revelations 23," and "Burnt Beyond Recognition," but hated "Vengeance is Mine," "Love is the Law," and "Systematik Ruin." (I think that "Continuum" and "Return to Grimpen Ward" are OK, but nothing exceptional.) So I was truly apprehensive when I decided to ask for this for Christmas. Now that I've had some time to listen to it a couple times, I must say that this is truly a new direction for the band, possibly due to the fact that it was composed minus a Dassing (present in the production but not in the composition). In any event, I could imagine that this is what Skinny Puppy *would* have sounded like if Ogre and everyone else had put down the heroin and picked up lots (LOTS) of LSD. I would be hesitant to draw the Mentallo/SP comparison, but the vocals, the disjointed melodies, the stuttering and rolling beats -- it all screams of early (read: good) SP with modern production techniques. There are times when it seems like it just forays out into nothingness, but at the same time there are parts where it's catchy and immediate. It's not perfect, but it's definitely one of my favorite M&TF releases of all time. I heartily recommend it to all industrial fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow February 28, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Mentallo & the Fixer were two Marvel Comics villians that escaped from prison to become a royal pain for COL Nick Fury and Shield as well as others. One had mindbending powers and the other had inventive technical skills that made McGyver look like a total novice. This little factoid probably explains how the band started conceptually, by messing with minds through extreme technical manipulation.

Admittedly, this is my first Mentallo & the Fixer purchase and Wow!!! Cyberpunk is reborn. To some this album may seem chaotic and disturbing. To others, this recording remains sonically interesting throughout. There is structure but not a verse-chorus-verse structure as in more commercial-friendly music. Instead, each track evolves and naturally changes so frequently it almost keeps the listener off-balance. This reviewer suspects that is the point.

Much as the title would suggest, the artist (Gary Dassing) attempts to evoke "enlightenment" by challenging the listener. For those who are really listening, the sounds and textures represent various emotions or rather the "chemical catalyst" in the brain.

Fans of Skinny Puppy should also check out this release.
