Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

In this difficult but rewarding book, psychologist Palmer explicates a complex system of personality typology derived from an ancient Sufi tradition and later used by the occult teacher Gurdjieff. This system, the Enneagram of personality types, is further clarified by comments from students and psychiatric patients. Students of self-realization techniques should find the book intriguing, although it is evident that to make progress in self-understanding, assistance from a teacher such as the author would be necessary. 5.0 out of 5 stars best information on the enneagram I've seen, January 5, 2001
By A Customer
This audio series offers an incredible description of both the enneagram and the nine different survival types. I've read a lot on the subject and have not seen anything this comprehensive to date. Plus, being audio, makes a fantastic way to pass the time commuting, working, walking, whatever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Ezra, Hezekiah? No...but!, August 27, 2008
This review is from: The Enneagram (Audio CD)
Better than the DSM IV? Yes! in its own way...maybe even better than Snickers. There's another kind of snicker we give each other and it's not so sweet...As Prufrock noted: "I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker, And in short, I was afraid." That's the feeling the "client" gets facing the great glass doors to the Kingdom of the Shrinks. (Maybe I'm paranoid? That's because "they're after me!") anyway

As we recall, it was Carl Jung's bright idea to refer the term "personality" back to the Greeks' use of great big wooden masks with built-in megaphones for their plays, enacted before audiences up to 20,000, in amphitheaters without electrified sound systems...Per-sona (sounding through) is the Latin term for getting jiggy wit it and playing out your part.

The Enneagram gives us the strength to stand up for our right to be greater than a diagnosis, and freer than a course of treatment...better than Ezra, we can walk back to the City of the Highest (ok) Power...and actually meet him/her/it, because this heavenly kingdom is within us.
