This review is from: What Type of Leader Are You? Using the Enneagram System to Identify and Grow Your Leadership Strengths and Achieve Maximum Success (Paperback)
This is even better than her first book, "Bringing Out The Best In Yourself At Work." I never thought something like the Enneagram could be relevant to an ordinary person like me, but Lapid-Bogda has given me really valuable insights into myself and the people around me. As with her last book, I recommend reading it twice: once to find out about yourself, and another time to scope out the people you work/live/play with. Highest possible recommendation!

This book is a required reading for all my coaching clients. It is clear, accessible, and provides tools for immediate application in personal life and career. Lapid-Bogda goes beyond a typing system, and provides a map for self development and self mastery. Her section on writing e-mails is fantastic and provides amazing insight on how to bring awareness into everyday communication. My clients are blown away by how easy it is to implement her strategies. I was very impressed by her section on optimal decision making. This is a must read for anyone who wants to explore the enneagram and its usefulness in the work setting.

As a consultant I am thrilled by the content of this book. It has been so useful to me and my clients that I have decided to translate it into French.
Not only the leadership competencies are explained in detail, but all leaders get clues to improve their specific talents and extend their abilities in many ways. A life changing experience !

This review is from: What Type of Leader Are You? Using the Enneagram System to Identify and Grow Your Leadership Strengths and Achieve Maximum Success (Paperback)
This is a terrific book for leaders and for those who work with them. Doesn't that describe just about everyone? Never has the Enneagram been so elegantly intertwined with business leadership competencies. The systemic perspective provided in What Type of Leader Are You? has great value and broad applicability for leaders and non-leaders alike. The author's easy style, detailed descriptions and real-life examples make the book fun and useful. If you're interested in a great read articulating how the power and wisdom of the Enneagram can provide tools for self-insight, enhanced leadership effectiveness and organizational improvement, I highly recommend this book.

What Type of Leader Are You?
As a training consultant this book is an invaluable tool and often suggest that clients use it as a regular reference book both for themselves and for their colleagues and employees. This book gives such an insightful description of the different leadership styles that is quite compelling. It's excellent for leadership development. Ms Lapid-Bogda outlines how each of the personality types can develop their leadership styles and grow in a way that is both challenging and compassionate.

This review is from: What Type of Leader Are You? Using the Enneagram System to Identify and Grow Your Leadership Strengths and Achieve Maximum Success (Paperback)
WOW -- this is a great resource for executive coaches and corporate leaders seeking personal development, the best discussion I've encountered on how to bring the immense value of the enneagram to a corporate environment. The book begins with an explanation of the nine enneagram types, along with the concepts of wings, stress and security points. (Altough there is probably sufficient information here to enable someone to determine his/her own type, it's an overview at best; I would recommend a more detailed analysis.) The chapters that follow discuss core competencies (leadership/business/people skills) necessary for executive success in the business world. These core competencies include (1) drive for results, (2) know the busines / think & act strategically, (3) become an excellent communicator, (4) lead high-performing teams, (5) take charge of change, (6) make optimal decisions, and (7) strive for self-mastery. For each of the competencies, the author describes how individuals of each enneagram style demonstrate excellence and weakness within that competency. Next comes the really good part -- for each of the competencies, the author suggests several specific and concrete steps that individuals of each type can take to facilitate growth. The author also provides general development tips applicable to all types. Throughout, the book is filled with interesting and real-world examples, some showing effective and ineffective behaviors in the corporate setting, some simply showing differences between types. In the chapter on communication, the author analyzes e-mails and e-mail exchanges by type and offers very specific guidance for how to improve e-mail communications. Many of the suggested improvements are subtle and not particularly obvious, but they dramatically improve the clarity of communications
What I find particularly useful about this guide are the concrete, specific suggestions for development. If someone is seriously interested in developing leadership skills but doesn't quite know where to begin, this book will provide a clear answer. There are specific exercises, described in concrete terms, identified for each of the nine types in each of the core competency areas. It's like having a targeted workout program developed by a personal trainer -- with detailed guidance on how to correctly perform each exercise, the number of reps to perform, the recovery time required, the frequency of workouts, . . .. There's no room for misinterpretation or confusion about what steps to take to address a developmental issue. The author also includes a comprehensive bibliography, identifying resources applicable to each of the competencies. Overall, first-rate, something I know I'll use again & again. One caveat -- Although the enneagram has very broad application, the focus in this book is clearly on executive development in a corporate setting. This book might be of limited use to someone seeking general knowledge about the enneagram or self-development wholly outside of the workplace.

I've done some extensive work with the enneagram; even taking courses with Russ Hudson. Additionally I taken some of the best leadership courses money can buy. I bought this book hoping to see a deep connective meaning between the two. I am disappointed in the book. Each chapter sounds like the previous chapter with very similar comments and "stretches". I felt as if the author was stretching to write more pages than necessary. I don't feel my leadership has changed as a result of this book.

This book is packed with worthwhile organizational development tips as well as information on the Enneagram. I have used it with client groups to provide ongoing learning about team development, communication and group problem-solving. The book offers insights about the thought process and leadership approach of each type within the context of challenges that all leaders face.

I was disappointed and sorry I'd bought the book. The enneagram and what it reveals fascinates me. However this book lives in a different galaxy from the slew of other books I've read on the topic, or the days spent with Oscar et al. Admittedly I'm not a corporate type, but this book was so dry, I had to force myself to pick it up and find something--anything! compelling.
