The Enneagram, a nine-pointed star in a circle, is an ancient cosmic symbol whose origin has been shrouded in mystery. It was introduced to the West about 80 years ago by internationally acclaimed teacher George Gurdjieff. What's Different About This Book?,

I was first prompted to buy this book because it has the combination of different types, such as if you are a '2', the planner, and a '6', the hero. It also gets into the enneagram as a process, steps 1-9. I was also intrigued by his giving examples of each type in a country and animal symbols. I have not followed its workbook aspect as yet, but that is also included.

I picked this up in a secondhand bookshop having read the excellent 'Wisdom of the Enneagram' by Riso and Hudson and hoping to learn more. I just wouldn't recommend it. I got very little from it, and compared to the depth of R&H's model it felt insubstantial and even confusing. I highly recommend Riso and Hudson's books as a starting point, especially 'Wisdom..' ... I really wanted to get something from Vollmar's book but ended up giving it away to a charity shop.
