Straightforward, practical, and the stuff works.,
This review is from: Enochian Vision Magick: An Introduction and Practical Guide to the Magick of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley (Paperback)
I was hesitant to write this review but felt I owed it to Lon, whom I respect greatly, to do so.
I got into a good law school because of my work with the planetary seniors of the air tablet, using the methods found in this book. Throughout my five-year formal work with ceremonial magick, vision has not been one of my stronger talents. That didn't pose a problem once I began working with the Dee material revived by and presented in "Enochian Vision Magick." To be sure, I've always gotten relatively spectacular effects working with anything Enochian, but what sets this material apart from other Enochian material--most of which has been filtered through my native Golden Dawn tradition--is its sense of completeness, coherency, and you might even say its more "theurgic" flavor. (I think the latter has a lot to do with the two former.) The mantras at the start of each operation heighten me in the same way and with the same potency as does much of Mantrayana I've worked with, and that's saying a bit. Thus, my work with the aforementioned seniors was hardly "thaumaturgy" in the pejorative sense of the word: I communed with these seniors, I spoke with them, and they gave me surprisingly precise and thorough advice on how to prepare for the LSAT and, eventually, for law school itself, which I am excited to begin this coming year. Without a doubt, my work with these seniors has made me a better human being, and that is really the point of our Great Work. I find Lon's book satisfying on multiple levels, but most of all it just WORKS, and it works in a way that will support the work of someone who isn't just interested in magickal bells and whistles (though those are nice too), but who is interested in a strong toolset that will support the path of initiation. Actually, I should qualify this by saying that the Enochian "angels" will show off if you want them to. But each planetary air senior with whom I worked emphasized the same message: The reason why they enjoyed working with me was because I wasn't doing this just for me, but for a greater vision of accomplishing the Great Work, of which they are *also* a part. Thus the work was about sharing, not about appeasement. That I am able to attribute such loftiness to Enochian magick should not be a surprise when we consider that John Dee was trying almost ridiculously hard to get in touch with God. I'm not a Renaissance Christian, but I do believe that we've inherited in our culture a tragic dualistic attitude toward the universe around us, such that magick seems to be for most people a forceful manipulation of "dead" matter. I think my Golden Dawn predecessors were victim to this in many respects; much of what they cobbled together in the GD work had the flavor of lifeless "technology," which isn't exactly wrong, it's just... myopic. I believe we must mend this dualistic attitude, or at least revise it. The Work supported by and augmented by "Enochian Vision Magick" brings us back to a place where the universe is alive and vibrant and we share in that life and light. Visionary magick begets communion with spirits, which begets a deeper connection to our cosmos and in turn serves as an antidote to short-sighted satisfaction.

Everything you need,
This review is from: Enochian Vision Magick: An Introduction and Practical Guide to the Magick of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley (Paperback)
I was always intimidated by the enochian system and so I was thrilled to see Duquette had written a book on it. He does a great job explaining the history and variations of the systems before getting to how he works. Included is everything you need to construct your own items and begin working. My favorite part about Duquette's books his enthusiasm and encouragement. Get in the work and begin doing the work. You'll never see results if you never try.

A Definitive Book on the Subject,
By Greg Kaminsky "rochester92" (Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Enochian Vision Magick: An Introduction and Practical Guide to the Magick of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley (Paperback)
Lon DuQuette has written the best book I've ever encountered with regard to the Enochian system - it is a complete guide to the Angelic operations of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley. "Enochian Vision Magick" is both well-written and easily accessible, even for beginners in the art. The historical context is invaluable in aiding the reader to fully grasp the complexity and intricacy of the operations. By including all the received material prior to the Enochian phase (especially the Heptarchia), DuQuette successfully endeavors to attune the reader in a similar manner to Dee and Kelly, thereby increasing the overall understanding and effectiveness of the workings. This book is simply superb and would be a great benefit to any esoteric library! This may be DuQuette's best book thus far...

This review is from: Enochian Vision Magick: An Introduction and Practical Guide to the Magick of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley (Paperback)
When I first began studying Enochian Magick 8 years ago, I bought every book I could find, and there were few, and still had a hard time making sense of it all. I finally put those studies on the backburner and have, in the ensuing years studied many other esoteric subjects. When I recently felt the urge to renew my studies of Enochia, I was blessed to come across this book and am absolutely thrilled with it. It seems to prove the saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher appears."

The Best Practical Book on Magick Ever Published!,
By
This review is from: Enochian Vision Magick: An Introduction and Practical Guide to the Magick of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley (Paperback)
This has to be the best practical book on Magic ever published. Lon Milo DuQuette is considered the world's foremost magus and his books are considered to be the most accurate, understandable, and practical. Lon is following in the tradition of Crowley and Regardi by bringing an innovative approach to magic and making it understandable and applicable to the general public. He takes the complicated system of Dr. John Dee and simplifies it so anyone can practice Enochian magic. You do not need to spend hundreds of dollars buying books on magic and spending years to figure out how to apply them.
In my opinion, this is the number one book on magic and both the newcomer to this field and the experienced magus would find this book indispensable. It is also great reading so even if you do not want to practice magic, this book will explain the system to you and give you the necessary understanding of this interesting field. What is so unique about this book and Lon's genius is that he has taken the magic of Dr John Dee and for the first time, applied it in the way no other person has so far. He has discovered the secret of the magical system of Dr. Dee. This book will go down as a classic of magick. Bravo to Lon for bringing the practice of magic to anyone interested and deciphering how to actually use Dr. John Dee's system of magick.

This review is from: Enochian Vision Magick: An Introduction and Practical Guide to the Magick of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley (Paperback)
Lon DuQuette has successfully developed a guide to the most powerful and complicated forms of Magick known to Mankind.
A well written and comprehensive guide detailing and expanding upon the original works of Dr. John Dee. A literal guide in what Enochian Magick is, how it works and how to work with it. If you wish to talk to an Angel or petition God for anything - pick up this book, read and study it, practice the Angelic language and talk directly to the sources of the universe. As a practitioner of Enochian Magick for the last 20 years, I can with all honesty state that practicing Enochian Magick will change your life in a positive manner. In the Magickial community "Enochian" has a reputation for several things, such as, "Wonderful!", "Enlightening" and "It Works".

a big step forward,

This review is from: Enochian Vision Magick: An Introduction and Practical Guide to the Magick of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley (Paperback)
There sure have been a lot of books published on the topic of Enochiana--understood generally as the system of angelic magic derived from the work of the Elizabethans John Dee and Edward Kelly. I count over twenty in my personal library alone. Many of these are historical, focusing on the primary materials from Dee and Kelly; while others are practical, offering instructions to contemporary aspirants and practitioners. Never before has there been a book that combines the two in such an accessible and sensible manner.
Lon Milo DuQuette is a storyteller, and his understanding of magick demands, and thus offers, the narrative framework so often missing from not only the modern practitioner approach, but also that of the source text analyst. His tale synthesizes the confusingly atomized objects and texts of angelic magic, placing them in a developmental sequence, and assessing their importance in the origins and fulfillment of Enochian praxis. His story does not end in the 17th century: the book is full of anecdotes about his own work and that of other living magicians, characterized by the humor and humility that are DuQuette's trademark as an authority on esoteric subjects. These stories are complemented by the necessary technical detail for anyone who wishes to use this book as a practical reference in actual work. And for those whose bent is toward research, the overview indicates all of the principal texts and topics of the angelic corpus, as the heads of so many fascinating trails. In my view, this book makes obsolete every previous "beginner" book on the topic, and is itself likely to hold a focal place in the bibliography for years to come. And along with its success as a primer, Enochian Vision Magick includes original reflection and inventive technique, so that veterans of the tablets and aires are sure to find food for thought among its pages.

Outstanding!,

This review is from: Enochian Vision Magick: An Introduction and Practical Guide to the Magick of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley (Paperback)
As someone that prefers to study Dee from the source materials, I came to this book with some reservations and honestly very low expectations. Imagine my surprise, then, when I opened the pages and was welcomed into probably the single best introduction to the rich system of Angelic magick I have ever encountered. DuQuette does a superb job; this book is great for beginners and seasoned practitioners. It is explained in a straightforward, no mystic mumbo-jumbo, systematic fashion. I would recommend this title to anyone interested in the magical systems of Dee, regardless of their experience level. My only complaint (and I tried to find some to balance this out!) is not against the content at all, but rather the use of Endnotes, which are clearly the bane of all literature (please, use Footnotes!). Regardless of this one small irritation, the book is an excellent, top notch reference and introduction that should not be missed by any serious practitioner.

Great book on Enochian Magick,
This review is from: Enochian Vision Magick: An Introduction and Practical Guide to the Magick of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley (Paperback)
I always wanted to wrap my head around Enochian magick, and get a good grasp of what it was all about. This book finally did it. It has many illustrations, and is very well written. It is written in a manner that is easy to comprehend. It did not take me long at all to finish the book. It is very fascinating. The ritual that Lon gives to do the magick seems very straightforward. Some day, I hope to gather together the materials to practice this form of magick. I believe it can bestow much knowledge and wisdom through the angels. I highly recommend this book to any interested in magick, to show to them that it is very real. Also, anyone interested in Enochian in particular, will get a lot out of it.

Must-have volume for serious Enochian practice,

This review is from: Enochian Vision Magick: An Introduction and Practical Guide to the Magick of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley (Paperback)
This is another great book from Lon. Before we had wonderful "Enochian World of Aleister Crowley" which gave Enochian Magick overview mainly from Golden Dawn/OTO perspective. The "Enochian Vision Magick" takes different point of view describing Enochian Magic in its more original form. The book is clearly written and very well organized. The text presents logical evolution of Enochian Magick system as it was gradually received by Dee and Kelley. While many occult volumes have multiple "blinds" requiring hard-to-get paraphernalia, Lon does great job removing any such blinds from his text, describing how Enochian rituals can be performed with minimal efforts on temple construction. The psychological mechanisms of scrying and visions are well described. The only "problem" of this book is that it has too low price for its real value. The volume of such level and clarity definitely could cost more. From my personal experience, I definitely recommend this one of the best and practical volumes on Enochian Magick. Since contact in Enochian rituals strongly depends on scrying ability, I can also recommend essay of Ben Rowe on Scrying or more fundamental work of Franz Bardon "Initiation into Hermetics" which provide great working plans for developing and improving of scrying skills.
