Excellent guide into Enochian,
By A Customer
This review is from: Enochian World of Aleister Crowley (Paperback)
This is an excellent little book! It takes the complexity of the Enochian system and makes it usable. I can say that this is something many other books on the subject fail to accomplish. Hyatt and Duquette are both experienced and practicing magicians, which instantly comes across in this work, with its "dare to be lazy" attitude. Through experience of my own, I can tell you what the two trademarks of all true magicians are: 1)The ability to laugh, even at the worst horrors, and 2)The ability to throw jargon out the door and discern the heart of every matter while never taking any matter too seriously. The simple reason for these abilities is that by actually doing magick and actually experiencing the magickal universe instead of merely reading about it, these abilities are automatically developed. These are abilities that Hyatt and Duquette both possess, and it sets the tone for this book. If you study its contents, you WILL understand the enochian system, and if you practice its rituals, you WILL be successful, given that you have at least some prior experience in magick. Be forewarned that this is advanced magick, and requires one to be proficient in the basic abilities. The methods taught here are powerful, utilising the potencies of Sex Magick. Enochian Magick in general should not be dabbled with without a thorough foundation. Doing so will either prove useless or expose the dabbler to very real dangers, depending on that person's innate psychic ability. Regardless of what some authors claim, these forces are more than mere phantoms of the mind. They act in a very independent and objective way upon the magician's reality. In other words, they might have other agendas than those of the naive apprentice, and will express these agendas quite violently if their "master" fails to muster the strength to command otherwise. In having said that, I leave the rest over to Hyatt and Duquette. After this the rest is between you and the angels of Enochian Magick. Enjoy!

CROWLEY-DUQUETTE-HYATT, an Unholy Trinity,
This review is from: Enochian World of Aleister Crowley (Paperback)
Aleister Crowley was called a black magician and the "wickedest man in the world." He was also called a holy-man, prophet, and Logos of the Aeon. In either case, he was the most brilliant and prolific philosopher magicians of the 20th Century. His greatest failing (if you can call it a failing) was the fact that he wrote as if he expected his readers were as educated, brilliant, and insightful as he. (He also mistakenly thought they could all figure out when he was kidding.)I'm no dummy, and it took me several years, lots of reference books, and a good deal of spiritual courage before I could begin to appreciate Crowley and his works. Helping to light my way through the dark tangles of Crowleyana were two books that were amazingly easy to understand, THE ENOCHIAN WORLD OF ALEISTER CROWLEY, and ALEISTER CROWLEY'S ILLUSTRATED GOETIA. These little gems were written with the expressed purpose of making Crowley's works on Enochian and Goetic magick comprehensible and usable. I don't know what gods conspired to bring Lon Milo Duquette and Christopher S. Hyatt, Ph.D together as a writing team, but I thank them. Both these gentlemen are prolific authors and famous in their own right, (just search their names on Amazon.com). Together with Crowley, however, they become an Unholy Trinity of modern magick. If you would actually like to perform magick instead of just reading about it, read both these little books now. Do I sound impressed? I am.

Summon the Angels of Enoch,
By
This review is from: Enochian World of Aleister Crowley (Paperback)
Hyatt and Duquette put together a splendid ritual using Enochian keys and calls based on Crowley's essay. It explains the charts and tables, that Crowley 'hid' from view, in which, Hyatt and Duquette point out its mystery and explain it in plain English. Somewhat confusing in how to set up the ritual and its entire process, but overall its a clear and concise formula. One should be forewarned, however, that performing these rituals is not to be taken lightly nor to do spontaneously the moment finishing the book. As the authors condone, read it, understand it and its implications: meditate.

An excellent general introduction to Enochain magick,
By Psyche (spiralnature.com) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Enochian World of Aleister Crowley (Paperback)
Hyatt notes early in that he has 'found the Enochian system to be the safest, cleanest and most logical system of practical magick one can perform. But it is an art and as such requires not only study and practice but also inspiration and the love-hate relationship all artists have with their craft' (pg 59). He further advises the reader to 'resign yourself at the outset to take responsibility for your own magical reality. When you have firmly assumed this responsibility you will realize there is no Enochian universe per se. There is only your universe which you can access by the Enochian formulae. There is no Enochian magick per se. There is only your magick, facilitated by the methods of the Enochian system' (pg 21).It contains Liber LXXXIV vel Chanokh, with detailed notes and further explanations preceding the text itself, providing a lucid and detailed guide to the Enochian system via Crowley, spiced with anecdotes describing the authors' personal experience with the Enochian system. To further facilitate the ease of understanding the system the authors advise using coloured diagrams, noting that while 'all this may take a few hours to execute but it will save you months (or as in my case, years) of confusion' (pg 46) as through colour-coding it becomes more obvious how the tablets relate. However, the section devoted to sex magick is small, only two short and somewhat vague chapters tagged on the end. Hyatt intends this 'for the reader who is already knowledgeable on these subjects', noting that he is merely offering 'a few helpful hints concerning how Enochian can be used in these areas' (pg 104). While this may be true, it also means that it doesn't quite warrant the slightly misleading 'Sex Magick' subtitle given to it. Toward the rear of the book there is an Enochian dictionary; complete with several pages of Enochian words, their pronunciation and English translation. Also included is the Lesser Ritual of the Hexagram, and in the appendix there are several diagrams of the tablets, the pentagrams and signs, as well as eight 'sex magick symbols'. Lucid, concise, precise in its language, the Enochian World of Aleister Crowley is excellent as a general introduction to the study Enochian magick through Crowley, if not a practical guide to sex magick.

Magick Made Easy,
By Joseph Adams "brother" (Superior, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Enochian World of Aleister Crowley (Paperback)
I was so enthralled by this that last night I read about 80 pages in one sitting. This has a few easy rituals to do and one with a partner. I was amazed at how easy a couple rituals were as described in this book. Also included are lovely illustrations. Aleister Crowley's rituals are controversial and simple. This blows away trendier witches and warlocks' rituals in mass market books due to the simplicity of them. No hard to find, specialized items. Pure black magic? Yes; blasphemous and easy!

By Old Nick (USA) - See all my reviews

The title initially put me off as I thought that it was probably a strange little side adventure that had little to do with the Enochian system. BOY WAS I WRONG! This is a WONDERFUL book about the enochian system complete with color plates of the spirit tables!
Even if you have other books on enochian, you should still have this text! It is easy enough to understand for the first-timer yet packed with so much information that even the advanced practitioner will find use in it!

Just like its companion, but much, much older....,
By Jason Brill (Marietta, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Enochian World of Aleister Crowley (Paperback)
The Enochian Keys are given a new dimension of life in this book. Like it's companion, Crowley's Illustrated Goetia, Uncle Al has, once again, managed to simplify, by cutting out the fat and getting right to the meat of the matter. Taking an ancient, and very hazy subject that few have written about, Aleister Crowley, et al, have taken the Angelic keys - attributed to Enoch himself - and brought them home. Now anyone can utilize the power of the ancient spirits to channel a part of themselves that lies dormant. But, beware! For, just like Solomon's Goetia, Enochian calls have been warned about for centuries. Whether for research or for practical use, this book belongs on anyone's list of invocation magick.

Perfect Vehicle to Open the Gates of Enochian Magick,
By A Customer
This review is from: Enochian World of Aleister Crowley (Paperback)
The complexity of Dee's Enochian system, especially with respect to real-life workings, has daunted more than a few sincere practitioners of the magickal arts. Until now, there was no "Enochian For Dummies" that revealed the basis of Enochian theory and practice with a minimum of fuss. Once again, however, Duquette and Hyatt have come to our rescue: this little volume is a concise, clear-headed, no-nonsense exposition that blows the lid right off the Enochian labyrinth, immediately enabling the reader to step into the heart of the matter. If you intend to move beyond the armchair and start working with the Enochian Angels and Aethyrs, this volume is a must. Duquette and Hyatt are to be congratulated for this latter-day gem of occult literature!

Great book,
By Marc Wicoff (Beachwood, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Enochian World of Aleister Crowley (Paperback)
A wonderfully written book. Easy to follow, susinct. I have been a long time reader of Crowley and have been conjuring for close to 10 years and this book is what I wish I had read when I was starting out. A student handed it to me about 6 months ago and I've reread it a dozen times. If you are interested in understanding the Enochian system of conjuring, in easy to understand language, buy this book. My only wish now is to meet the author.

Best practical guide to the Enochian system,
By
This review is from: Enochian World of Aleister Crowley (Paperback)
This is simply tbe best practical guide to the Enochian system of magick that I have found. I got my hands on it six weeks ago and it is dog-eared and somewhat worn from frequent use. I find myself refering to it constantly.Although by no means a complete reference to Enochian magick (that would be quite a feat indeed!), it covers enough material so that the aspiring magician can get started on operations fairly quickly. This includes several versions of the Great Table with alternate spellings used over the years, and all the basic ritual elements from the LBRP to the different calls. This book also contains a complete copy of Liber Chenoch, which is Crowley's exposition of the Enochian system. In theory, Chenoch is sufficient to understand the entire Enochian system; in practice, Crowley can be difficult to interpret properly (anyone who's argued about minutae of the Gnostic Mass can attest to this); this book clarifies and expands Chenoch. This book is quite handy not only as a thorough explanation of the Enochian system of magick, but also as a reference when doing actual ritual work. It is by no means a COMPLETE reference. For that, you'd do well to also look through David Jones's work, as well as Geoffrey James's "Enochian Magick of Dr. John Dee." and the "Faithful Relation." If you're looking to do practical Enochian work, then I can't think of a better place to start than with this book. |
