A lovely book, with lovely pictures. We have all enjoyed reading it and passing it along. It is very interesting how the words become part of the art.

The author did a great job giving information about the poet while exposing readers to his poems. Useful if your teaching poetry so kids realize that all poems do not have to rhyme.

‘Enormous Smallness’, a debut work for children from Matthew Burgess with the artwork made by Kris Di Giacomo, in a beautiful way tells the life story of Edward Estlin Cummings, a known American poet, from his childhood back in the end of 19th century through his whole life in which he had become a recognized poet.

The authors will introduce the youngest readers to the poetical world of E.E. Cummings that started back then when he was a kid telling the verses to his mother, beginning his exploration of words and discovering the beauty they can create.

In a similar manner, starting from the book title, this debut author also successfully plays with words, referring to E. E. Cummings childhood experience of Nature's "illimitable being.” And with the first sentence that opens the book "Inside an enormous city - in a house on a very small street, - there once lived a poet - I would like you to meet." – the reader is immediately convinced of the great chemistry between the author and illustrator, who with soothing colors leads reader to Cummings's home, his enormous tree and the small tree house between its branches.

Through the book, readers are becoming aware of Cummings fascination with elephants that started when as a kid he saw them for the first time at the circus, while to these great animals, the company will often make the smaller ones – the birds and their songs that take away the author from his work: "may my heart always be open to little - birds who are the secrets of living - whatever they sing is better than to know - and if men should not hear them men are old.

It's no coincidence that everyone seems to use the word "magic" to describe this perfect, playful, poetic gem of a book. It is completely delightful! And it's not just about poetry--but about blazing your own path, no matter what the world thinks. Now I have birthday presents covered for every enormous-small person in my life!!!
