Lianne La Havas is a singer/songwriter/guitarist from the UK and her debut CD "Is Your Love Big Enough?" sounds just as lovely as her name. It's a blend of Soul, Jazz, and Folk, acting as a perfect backdrop to her feathery vocals which recall Erykah Badu or even Amel Larreux.
The album opens "Don't Wake Me Up" opening with a wall of multi-layered vocals before morphing into a spacey guitar-driven ballad. The title track is a guitar/hand clap-driven affair, while "Lost & Found" is a piano ballad with quivery emotive vocals which would do Adele proud, as would the spare piano ballad "Gone". "Au Cinema" is a soft ballad with twitchy sounding guitar, while "No Room For Doubt" is a tender duet with Willy Mason. "Forget" features skittery percussion and the angry lyrics "Waste all your time writing love songs, but you don't love me", while the unfussy acoustic "Age" is a spare Jazzy/Bluesy piece.
Every song stands out really; "Elusive" is a groovy ballad, "Everything Everything" is a lush Jazzy shuffle, "Tease Me" is an acoustic ballad, and closing is the catchy sunny "They Could Be Wrong", jangly Indie Pop with Havas tenderly teasing and caressing with her voice.
The album has already debuted at #4 in her native UK. Glad to see that good music can still find an audience sometimes. This album is an absolute delight!!

She can belt it out, and she can be soft and breathy. She uses a wide variety of voice qualities in her debut album. The musical arrangements are often polyrhythmic in this genre-crossing album that reflects the diverse musical influences of her childhood.

WOW!!! i have not been this excited about a debut album in a very long time...she is absolutely incredible! at 57 years old, i can still crank that volume up in the car, which i did today on the song "is your love big enough?" i WILL be following her in the future...

This is a pretty talented woman! She has a GREAT voice and some seriously wonderful words to impart. The music is eclectic enough to keep you wondering, upon first listen, where she may go next. I have been TRYING not to listen to this on a continuous loop and failing quite happily....This CD is more than worth buying.

This is Lianne La Havas first full CD. Her voice and guitar playing are awesome for someone in her early twenties. The title track "Is Your Love Big Enough?", is the question put to her by her manager after noticing that the young singer was starting to gain a larger following of her music. He wanted to know if she had enough love or passion for the things that are on the horizon for her....she is blowing up! I don't want to attempt to categorize her sound, other than to say it is worth the adventure.

My wife and I went to her live show in Alexandria, VA a few weeks ago. I told her that I simply wanted to hug Ms. La Havas and smell her hair.
She said that she would probably do the same.
