Man...This guy is Good....wait....This guy is GREAT!!!!,

Another AWESOME offering from the FINEST songwriter today!!!
Enough Rope is another example of this man's GREATNESS!! The first four songs are AWESOME!!. "Cry Lonely" being the best. "Enough Rope" is a dagger of a song. Finest, most honest song I've heard from Knight. The cd is a bit darker in ways. A little bit harder with more edge .....which is fine. There are a couple of missteps for me...."River Road" and "Bridle on a Bull" are really not Knight's normal calibur....But...Far better than just about anything else out there!! PLEASE LORD...Let this very talented young man finally win a bigger auidence....He SO deserves it!!

a missed comparison?,

Excellent cd - bought without having heard a thing by him in advance and most pleasantly surprised. However, I don't see the Steve Earle comparison - to me this is reminscent of classic John Mellancamp and anyone who loves Mellancamp circa Scarecrow and Uh-Huh will love this

I'm only going to write this review for the people you are already on board with Chris Knight. I wish mass commercial success would open up for Chris Knight because he deserves it. There are very few people who ever came down the pike that are in Chris Knight's league. I always thought that Chris was a country version of Bruce Springsteen. That being said this is his "Tunnel Of Love" album. A little softer, not as dark, dare I say a little pop here and there? Just when you think he has a song that might break on the radio you realize there was one line in the song that said "strung out like some junkie in a back alley". Oops! That won't fly on country radio. There are still several hard rockers on here that will blow you away in concert as much as anything he has ever done. If you haven't seen Chris Knight in concert, go to his web site and find a concert to go to. When your at the concert try at some point during the show get close enough that you can see his face. His passion and intensity will give you goosebumps. No theatrics. Honest, real, humble, and intense.

The greatest does it again,

Once again, he hits it hard. Chris Knight is the epitome of alt-country (real country) music. Somewhere along the way people forgot that country music was suppose to be defiant. Chris Knight does a good job of being true to the roots of counrty and souther rock, insightful, defiant, and truthful

This guy's the real deal,

I first heard Chris perform in studio, and I was so moved that I picked up his CD. I wasn't disappointed. It's great stuff. Chris rocks and rolls, and doesn't slow down. This CD is about the working class, no questions asked. I love the mixture of rock guitar, steel guitar, and fiddle. Take the free spirit of Austin's best music, hone the songwriting, add Lloyd Maines' steel guitar, and a rock band pushing it to the limit, then you have the sound on this CD. If Knight keeps collaborating with Texan Gary Nicholson, get back, Jack.

More refined than his previous efforts, "Enough Rope" still has all of the ingredients that us CK fans enjoy. It's edgy, insightful and full of songs that cover how tough this journey through life really can be. While definitely not a mainstream artist, Knight's music will strike a chord for the many of us that have been there and done that. If you like any of his previous work, or are looking for something a little off the beaten path, I recommend this album.

More great stuff,

The title track is unbelievable, and proof that this long-awaited album was worth it! Played live it is powerful, but the studio version does it justice as well. Brilliant song-writing with phrases that stay with you long after the song ends. Wish he would get more recognition, the best singer songwriter out there. Gritty and dark, at his best. Old Man is as good as he gets, with beautiful lyrics and strong imagery. The fiddle playing on Enough Rope will give you chills.

Just Great,

I've been searching for good country music for years & have a lot of country pop that I find myself overlooking when gabbing something for the car because the initial appeal doesn't last. Chris Knight is what I've been looking for. His lyrics aren't the cringe worthy stuff that fans of other genres smirk about, his songs get better with each listen & I only hope I get to see him in concert.

Dark On the Outside, Light On the Inside,
This review is from: Enough Rope (Audio CD)
This album comes off really dark at first, but once you get inside there is light and that light is good for you... Some of the best music can be hard to get on... here you get an easy ride.... Once inside it becomes obvious this is a sweet contemplative album with punch.
It's rare to find an artist like this these days since no one shares the music without getting paid for it... Hence radio pop only and no Chris Knight in sight... Radio airplay is so far away from what real music lovers want... stripped down disorganized fun. An album like this has to be lifted up, as it is a great album by a tremendous artist Highly Recommended ! |
