This is an awesome book which I read when it first came out and I've been searching for it for years! Charles Mercer tells the story of the Revolutionary War from the view of a young man named Micah. He talks of his life on a farm as a servant in the colonies. Later he joins the army fighting for Independence and tells of the many trials the colonists suffer at the hands of the British and the every day hardships of the Continental Army from the soldiers themselves. It's a memorable book about the Revolution from a point of view not often heard, the everyday man.

I read this book first at age 9, though it is not a children's book. I loved it then and still find it absorbing. This is a beautiful book about interesting characters in the build-up to the Revolutionary War.
