I've always loved WordSearch Puzzles. I especially enjoy working on those found in my morning Sunday paper. However, I was concerned about the negative reviews but downloaded anyway; hoping I'd discover the reported issues to be unfounded.

Well, first of all. I really like this app! :-) I did have some difficulty in figuring out how to select a word on the screen. At first, I would tap the first letter then slide my stylus to the last letter & tap it. This worked but quickly became tedious & frustrating. After selecting words this way for 10 or 15 minutes, I somehow suddenly figured out the correct way to do it! And, oh it's SO MUCH EASIER! So for those of you that have reviewed this app as having poor UI or controls? It really doesn't! Its actually very simple. Just tap the 1st letter & the last letter! That's it! :-)

Perhaps a pop-up or a notice of some sort could be placed where it would be highly visable just prior to starting the puzzle. It would be very helpful in eliminating any confusion as to how to select words (correctly!)

The font designs & color combinations in the Themes are nice but, I agree with many others; although it's not too bad on my Kindle Fire, these combinations are an eye strain, even for my teen daughter. However, the Newspaper Theme looks great on both my K-Fire & my Samsung Galaxy.

It would be nice to see a fix on the Themes by making the fonts larger & changing the color. or graphics of the backgrounds in so that it doesn't make people crosseyed! Also, an update to add a small visable notice on How to Select Words would be nice, as well. Other than that, I am really enjoying this app with my morning coffee. If I keep the settings in the Newspaper Theme then, it's perfect!

If you enjoy completing WordSearch Puzzles then I highly recommend this one! If you're reading this after Amazon's FAOTD offer, I still feel it is worth the 99˘ download. :-)

There really isn't much to say about word search games. If you don't know how they work, the premise is simple. You are given a square grid that is full of letters and must pick out the provided words while the clock tracks your speed.

What makes this game stand out is the huge amount of puzzles it has. There are literally countless words for you to find from within 63 different categories, and six backgrounds so you don't get too tired of staring at the same exact jumble of letters.

Another thing that sets Ultimate Word Search HD apart from its competition are all the features. A lot of people complain that the UI is terrible - I actually think the UI pretty great. To find a word, you simply select the first and last letter, the UI does everything else for you. This is both quick and easy, and I love that I don't have to drag out the entire word (you can, but selecting two letters is much easier).

I also like the dictionary look-up feature. At any time, you can simply click on a word and check its meaning from AskOxford, Dictionary.com, Free Dictionary, Merriam-Webster, and good old Wikipedia. This is a really great addition to the game and something I wish more word search games had.

Autosaving is also in the game - and the feature does its job. If you leave mid puzzle, you can quickly return to where you were by simply selecting "continue".

The graphics and sound effects are extremely simple but fit the game. Honestly, I don't see how this app could have better graphics without causing a strain on your eyes.

The only issue I have with this game is how it handles sleep mode. Ultimate Word Search HD has no keep-alive function and your device will go to sleep once the power-save mode kicks in. This is really odd for such a game and is a huge inconvenience. You can get around this by changing the power settings from within your Android device, but a game that requires very little interaction until the proper word is found should at least have some sort of option to prevent the screen from going dark. I found it very annoying having to wake up my phone if I couldn't find the target word for more than a minute.

Priced at just $.99 cents this is a really good deal, and if they ever fix the power issue, I would have no problem bumping up the score to a perfect five stars.

Ultimate Word Search HD looks, sounds and works fine on my Xoom Tablet. Works as described, has no apparent, flaws, ads, data mining or spying features or other annoyances. It does score progress after each level. Easy to play and has some display options to suite your preferences for outside of grid area. Unfortunately, it has NO option to change COLOR or font for the 3 built in grids or letter color. That is a problem because the Letters can be a little hard to see (especially in Orange screen). Overall, it is a Good app and maybe they will update with more visual options later since others have mentioned this also.
