Book Description

A man's Past leads to his Future......

Agent Stone of the Shadow Unit's job is simple, most days. Work in the Shadows, police his own Kind.

When an unwanted assignment turns out to be his darkest fantasy from the past, Draven can't help but be conflicted by the memories of the past and his responsibilities in the future. But his decision has been made.

The Heart of a woman is Tested........

Jes can't let the tall dark agent back into her life.
How can she trust any man after what she's endured. Years of abuse have broken her down and she doesn't have room for more. The man she turns to for help hasn't abused her physically but he's tormented her emotionally. A past betrayal left her scarred, but also brought her life.

Can she accept him into her heart and trust him again?

One will survive and adapt, the other will realize hearts can be mended even if it’s a bit too late.

The road to forgiveness sometimes only brings more pain. Unexpected events set their lives on two separate tracks leading to one outcome. Lives will be changed and an emotional battle to save their souls will leave them both trapped and enslaved in their need for one another.

***WARNING*** This book contains foul language. A torture scene by a mad man and explicit sex.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings..... March 9, 2013
By Melissa
Format:Paperback
I was very torn on how to rate this book.

Synapsis:
Our hero and heroine have a one night stand that results in a little pink bundle of joy; only he doesn't know because they don't see each other until the book flashes forward five years. Now the h is in trouble because she has married a real bad guy who is not only abusive but traffics in illegal activities of the supernatural persuasion. When the h find out her husband is kidnapping and killing vampires for their blood she offers help to a super-secret paranormal police force in exchange for protection from her husband for her and her daughter. Of course the heroine's one night stand and the father of her child just happens to be on the police force. So starts a fast pace well written story to get the heroine safe, "secure" her daughter oh and save the kidnapped vamps; all while our bad guy does his most evil to prevent it.

Review:
I found the story to be well written and fast paced and enjoyed being taken along for the journey. I almost have to review this in two aspects. 1. The action was good and the author was creative and unflinchingly descriptive at writing some of her gritty scenes. Honestly I have to say the scene where they interrogated a traitor and the scenes where the heroine flashed back to the abuse in her marriage will stay with me for a while. Still not sure if that's a good thing or not as it def. made an impression on me, but I'm imaginative enough that some of the reading made me squeamish. 2. The Romantic Relationship was something that had me thinking about the book after I finished. I think the biggest problem was that I didn't really like either the heroine or the hero. The hero is supposed to be a "strong alpha male" type and he is, but really he's taken beyond that to a bit of a jerk.

3.0 out of 5 stars undecided October 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm of two minds, having finished this book. On one hand, I found myself really irritated with the book in general and the cliffhanger ending in particular. On the other hand, I apparently liked it since I was willing to go out and buy the sequel. The latter probably trumps the former.

To address that first issue, what annoyed me the most was the fact that the whole thing is just so darned wordy. What I mean is that Ms. Eden often takes pages and pages to say what could have been accomplished in two sentences. And while this sometimes worked really well, painting a vivid mental picture and setting the scene for the characters to shine in (and they often do), at other times I found myself thinking, 'Oh. My. God. Have we really not moved on yet?' Unfortunately this latter thought struck me more often than I would like to admit.

This excess verbiage also means that, even though the book is 232 pages long, very little seems to happen. Even less once you factor in the fact that half the book is sex scenes. This is to be expected, of course, so mentioning it isn't a complaint. But it leaves the plot to consist of essentially a one-night stand, a meeting, a car trip, a kidnapping, a rescue, and a cliffhanger. That's not much for 200+ pages.

As I said, I did go out and purchase book two...or open up my laptop and click 'buy now.' So there were obviously things about the book I liked too. Most notably I liked Royce and Ronin, who Burned in Shadows is focused on. Their mystique was intriguing and I want to know more about them.

I liked the way Eden made Draven's over-bearing, alpha nature feel almost like more of a cultural misunderstanding between him and Jes than anything else.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enslaved to this series October 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My first thoughts on this novel? What a twist and what a rush. This was awesome. My final thoughts however, `you've got to be kidding me! It' can't end like that!' (vocally enough that my dogs came running). A standalone novel this is not, but completely phenomenal none the less.

This novel is vividly visual right from the first page. I can see the characters and their surroundings right in my mind's eye. Eden's off the walls, in your face writing style keeps you on your toes throughout. Eden also sets off at a fast pace that she keeps up for most of the novel. There were a few places where the story lagged as she fills in her readers about necessary background information, but that is bound to happen in the first novel of a new series.

I really like Eden's take on the supernatural world. As many different species and races as she presents, the supernaturals actually stick together for once. At the same time, each of the supernatural races is individually developed. As a reader you don't get to know everything about any of the races, however you know as much about them as the other characters do. It's quite the unique concept. The well-developed supernatural law enforcement agency is also very intriguing.

The characters in this novel are completely off the hook. By individually developing each of the characters Eden allows them to stand on their own. At the same time, she ties everyone together so that you can see how they fit into their unit and family as a whole. With the large variety of character types in this novel there is someone for everyone to fall in love with and to identify with. There is also someone for every reader to keep as the bad guy.

Overall, this was a brilliant introduction to the Shadow Unit.
