Can't speak to the flavor because I use a feeding tube. But the cost is reasonable and it is handy that it is in a powder form. I plan to use this for emergencies as it takes less space than the bottles or cans. If you follow the instructions it mixes easy. If you do it the lazy way and throw the whole mix in the water at once it will come out clumpy unless you use some kind of blender. It's nutrition is not quite as good as Jevity but I find if I buy put in FOS (in the supplement section)and soy protein powder it will do just nice in a pinch.

VERY GOOD DRINK POWDER!

I was a caregiver for a family member who has since passed away, and I am now just getting the opportunity to write reviews for all the products I purchased here during the time that I have provided care.

The doctors and nurses recommended I give my patient Carnation Instant Breakfast, Ensure, or Boost, and I looked around, and priced it all, and then I found Ensure Nutrition Drink Powder, Vanilla Flavor here.

I purchased this for the sole purpose of getting more fluids and nutrients into him.

He would not drink the volume that was prescribed, but he loved ice cream, and so I would mix up a batch of Ensure Powder with milk, and then freeze it into an "ice-milk" in a Cuisinart Pure Indulgence Ice Cream Maker, then top it with a little chocolate sauce, and that way I could get him to eat as much as he wanted.

The nurses who came to do home visits and checkups were impressed with my inventiveness, and they were not even aware that Ensure came in a powder form. So, if you are a caregiver for a loved one, and nutrition and fluids are a serious issue, then perhaps some of this advice will help you.

Does not have much to recommend it

This version of Ensure (vanilla flavor) Powder is the "regular" version, neither "Plus" nor high-protein nor low-carb (that would be Glucerna), and other than the weight advantage has little to recommend it over the liquid version that comes premade in plastic bottles in packs of six, sixteen or more. This powder is to be mixed with cold water, and it takes a good bit of stirring to de-lump it. The resulting drink approximates the nutrition of bottled vanilla Ensure but to me tasted a little hollow. Since this can yields only seven servings, it is only a little cheaper per serving than the going rate for a bottled six-pack, and actually noticeably more expensive per serving than a sixteen-pack. Unless you place a huge premium on dry, long-term storage or are really uncomfortable with all those little plastic bottles (they are recyclable BTW = no. 5), I think the logical choice is the bottled version or the nearly-identical store brands that are cheaper yet. My own preference is to spend a little more and go with a brand like Glucerna Hunger Smart that costs more, yet has more protein and a good deal fewer calories.

Ensure a wonderful product

I took the three cans of Ensure to Romania with me as we were to work with the abandoned children and children with cerebral palsy. Alina, a 14 yr old girl with cerebral palsy was having difficulty eating but when we put the Ensure in her bottle in order for her to eat, she really liked it and would readily drink it. I am so happy as hopefully with more protein this will truly help sustain her life.

Used this as food when I had mono

So I was plagued with an AWFUL case of mono and if you have ever had mono you know you lose your appetite.
So I needed to make sure I was still getting nutrients and something fairly healthy in me, even though I didn't really want to be eating. This worked great.

It was actually recommended by a friend who has also had mono years earlier. They said it really helped them on those days they just couldn't eat.

It's obviously a really good meal replacement. It's fill of vitamins and minerals.

Just Won't Mix

I bought a can of this hoping to cut down on the space that Ensure was taking up in the house. I thought I could pre-mix this into a gallon jug so I could take sips or gulps throughout the day. And, I was hoping the cost/oz would go down buying Ensure in this form.

Well, it may do all these things, but after my first and only attempt to mix an 8oz glass, all the potential benefits were out the window. It just won't disolve in water, or a least it didn't want to. Trying to stir it in with a spoon resulted in a clumpy mess.

You may have better luck if you actually use a blender, but for what I was hoping for, I'm better off with the 8oz bottles.
