and thats a good thing. This is a piece of music that shows that thuggery can be an artistic form of expression. Never before has the thought of bashing someone in the mug and making off with their wallet seemed so..so..beautiful. the choice samples layered in thick chunky slabs of filtered basslines and well-accenuated highs and melodics perfectly drizzle in and out of Buckshot's words and flow. It literally takes you on a marijuana trance through the rugged streets of Brooklyn. I mean, i listen to this album and i wonder why someone hasn't handed Fitty or Diddy a bullet in the cranium for their atrocities that sell publicly on the shelves of record stores. This is real hip hop. THIS is GANGSTER...not that Diplo crap or Retard Unit or any of these other mentally and artistically challenged kids from the streets. I only gave it 5 stars because Amazon wouldn't let me give it a gazillion....If you do not own this record, you should flog yourself against the hood of a moving automobile, preferably a station-wagon with wood paneling and metallic-peat colored paint because you are a nerd.

When [stuff] Was Real,
By "sugglife" (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Enta Da Stage (Audio CD)
This album is one of my top ten albums of all time. Itrepresents a time period between '92-'95 when the East Coast wasdefinitely runnin' [things]. I'm talkin' about when it was Gang Starr, Tribe, Nas(when he was still Illmatic), Smif-n-Wessun(when they were known as Smif-n-Wessun), Biggie(before he was reincarnated), theWuwhen all 36 were in full effect); puttin' it down for New York. Buckshot's flow is by far one of the best ever heard, and more than makes up for his petty lexicon. 5 Ft.'s few appearances are stellar, and the production by Evil Dee and Mr.Walt was some of the most original, extraordinary stuff to date. One of the only albums in a while to incorporate uncompromising, street hardness while keeping hip-hop pure. Few have came, and few will come, that are up to the caliber of the legendary Black Moon.

Top 10,

One of the best pure rap records ever, up there with 36 Chambers, Illmatic, Raising Hell, Nation of Millions, Straight Outta Compton, Amerikkka's Most Wanted. No wack ass R&B backups, no guest appearances by J Lo or Jah Rule, no pimpin', no bling bling, and no special bonus track produced by Puff Diddly. Just raw beats and rhymes, f the dumb sh*t.....
