5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery With a Wine Chaser October 29, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am a lover of a good whodunit. "Entangled" starts out by creating a feeling of foreboding, and all the characters seem capable of something unsavory. I couldn't put the book down. I worried all the way; the edge of my seat got a bit worn! I also developed a craving for a good glass of wine along the way.

This book is full of twists and turns, and Brink is a master of creating suspense. I won't spoil the ending, but I was surprised. Put this one on your Christmas list!

3.0 out of 5 stars GOOD READ April 3, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Entangled is about a divorce attorney who inherits her uncle's California winery. When she goes to claim it, nightmares she thought she'd gotten over return. To find their cause, she'll need to find out the secrets hidden in the winery.

The pacing was all right, but I couldn't quite get into the story. The heroine wasn't that appealing, maybe because the characterization seemed a little off.

Still, I finished it. If it hadn't been a decent read, I wouldn't have bothered!

5.0 out of 5 stars Romance Mystery Tangled Together September 29, 2010

I just finished reading the book Entangled by Barbara E Brink. It was an exciting fun ride. The main character's personality and personal tragedy affect your heart as you learn of her unresolved issues while the mystery and romance unfold. The book is hard to put down and keeps you engaged as the pages roll by. The twists and turns will keep you guessing what will happen until the very end. The book is well worth the money and time spent. I recommend it whole-heartedly. I want to know what will happen in upcoming issues for this character, and I can't wait for the next book. Good work Barbara!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so hot... December 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The book started out pretty interesting. However, the author uses the same phrases over and over, and continues to describe things that are irrelevant and uninteresting. This story needed to ditch a few cliches and get a add a few more words to the vocabulary. Easy read. Nothing too exciting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Believable Characters and a Compelling Story March 11, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Twenty-eight-year-old attorney Billie Fredrickson is shocked to learn that she's inherited her Uncle Jack's winery in the Napa Valley. Billie only met Jack once and that was twenty years ago during a family vacation. She doesn't have any clear memories of the winery or Jack, but when she returns for his funeral, Billie has recurring nightmares she thought she'd put behind her. Why have the nightmares returned, and why are winery employees, including its handsome lawyer, reluctant to answer some of her questions?

Enntangled is a poignant look at one woman's attempt to unravel family secrets. Author Barbara Ellen Brink does a great job of creating believable characters and providing enough clues and red herrings to keep the reader wondering what really happened when Billie was eight years old and, more importantly, who's responsible for the past and present trouble? Brink tells a good story and I look forward to reading more of her work.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mildly Interesting September 5, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My book club has been reading books about wine and the wine industry lately and this is weakest entry on our list. I love a good mystery and am willing to forgive the "damaged women" premise that seems to be so popular in recent cozies. This book, however, was a weak mystery with some unbelievable characterizations. Ms. Brink tells us how a person acts (i.e. Billie's father) but never gives us a rational explanation for this behavior. In addition the ending is totally out of left field and makes no sense at all.

Even as a romance this book is flawed. Everyone seems flat, and I didn't feel any chemistry or passion with any of the people in the book. Usually when I finish the first book in a series I add the next one to my wish list. I won't be continuing this series because there are too many flaws in the writing style.

I can only assume that Ms. Brink has a loyal following from her other writings because many of the reviews are too glowing to be believed. Over 70 reviews of a mediocre mystery seems a little forced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entangled (Volume 1) December 11, 2010
I absolutely loved this book, Entangled. I loved the suspense, characters and especially the humor - even in the most unexpected places. I am excited to have more in this series. Please, Barbara Ellen Brink, get busy and inspired once more - I would like to read the next book. I highly recommend this humorous, suspense novel to both men and women.

It was a little intense for me, but I will probably read the other two just because. Not the kind of book you read to fall asleep.
