5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible story
Even though the book is almost 30 years old, we're still fighting the war today.

This is the true story of the daring rescue of 105 Israeli Air France hostages taken to Uganda back in the late '70s. The IDF in a matter of hours planned and then executed a near-perfect rescue thousands of miles from home, losing only 4 hostages and two soldiers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Operation THUNDERBOLT
I read the previous reviews before purchasing this book and the book sounded outstanding as it was written by an Israeli in 1976. One thing turned me off before I even started to read this book though. On the back cover, the Preface and throughout the book, the rescue is referred to as "Operation Thunderball", vice the correct codename, "Operation Thunderbolt"; which was...

The story claims to be the only account "approved" by the Israeli government, but then, that was decades ago.

4.0 out of 5 stars The solution to terrorism., January 3, 2005

I admire what the Israelis did when an Air France airliner was hijacked by Palestinian and German terrorists in 1976. In a short time, they opened communications with the terrorists and plotted a raid to secure the hostage's release. This is an inspirational story of Rabin, Peres and Netanyahu and how they battled the dark forces of Amin and the PFLP terrorists. The solution to terrorism is to deal with what terrorists understand and that is force.

This is a nice read that details the terrorism Israel has faced from her beginning to 1976. One can understand why Israel reacts the way she does when there is constant terror on innocent civilians in her country. Israel has become a tough country because so many of her people have been killed because of Arab terrorism. This is also an inspirational story of Yoni Netanyahu and how he traded his life to free the Air France hostages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entebbe Rescue, June 28, 2000
This review is from: Entebbe rescue (Paperback)
I enjoyed reading about this historic event that happened in 1976. The book is very well written and there is no problem finishing it on one sitting. If you would like info on the history of Israel's Dealings with the Arab World and Various Terrorist Organizations there is quite a detailed history listed here as well as the amazing rescue at the Entebbe Airport in Uganda.

I read the previous reviews before purchasing this book and the book sounded outstanding as it was written by an Israeli in 1976. One thing turned me off before I even started to read this book though. On the back cover, the Preface and throughout the book, the rescue is referred to as "Operation Thunderball", vice the correct codename, "Operation Thunderbolt"; which was changed to "Operation Yonatan" after the raid in honor of LtCol Netanyahu. Such a glaring error on the outside cover and throughout the book reflects poor editing or translating by the publisher. Perhaps the publisher was thinking of the James Bond thriller, Thunderball. Overall, a great paperback book.
