About the Author

Kathleen Robbins is a Master Baker in Research and Development at Entenmann's Bakery. She studied Food Technology and Business at the State University of New York, and then began her baking career 23 years ago at a gourmet bake shop in Brooklyn, NY. There she honed her skills developing specialty cakes for the restaurant and hotel industry. For the past 21 years, she has been working in the lab and the bakery at Entenmann's creating innovative and delicious products from classic Ultimate dessert cakes to portable Little Bites snack products.

Kathleen lives with her husband and sons in Cutchogue, NY, where they love to go boating, fish, and enjoy Kathleen's delicious baked goods.

This book doesn't give any secrets away. I was hoping for the recipe for the all butter French crumb among others-what a disappointment. The author is just name-dropping-she works for Entenmanns. The recipes are not that inspiring and not for Entenmann's cakes and pastries. The first 89 pages are just recipes which used shredded, crumbled, diced, spliced-you get the idea-Entenmann's products.

First of all, this book is beautiful. Every recipe is accompanied by a full page color picture, and the pages are thick. That alone, I thought, made this book worth every penny. I then began to review the recipes. There is everything in here, from "almost homemade" desserts made with Entemann's products, up to complex three-layer cakes and even fondant work and decorating tips. I am SO impressed with this book. Do not let the low price fool you: this is a high quality baking book that is truly for all ages and all levels of baking experience. My fiance and I initially purchased this for his mother as a Christmas gift, but we found out another family member was getting it for her, and I am so glad because I now get to keep this book for myself!

The book covers almost homemade items, loaf cakes, party cakes, crumb cakes, donuts, cookies, brownies, and many other delicious treats. If you're looking for a baking book with VARIETY, this is it. You will not be disappointed.

Also, commenting on another reviewer that said the book doesn't contain actual Entemann's recipes: the book DOES contain a recipe for a pound cake, a sour cream coffee cake, and dark chocolate cakes that I would argue are VERY close to existing Entemann's products. You can tell by the type and quantity of ingredients they call for (for example, I believe the pound cake calls for FOUR sticks of butter- you're telling me that cake is not going to be as rich as a store-bought Entemann's pound cake?!) So this book doesn't have their exact signature recipes in it- but why would it? It makes no sense for Entemann's to give away all of their secrets in a cook book- they make money off of their products. I assumed that fact was obvious, though.

I saw this book a few months ago at BJ's and while there today I decided to buy it. I had know previously that the first 89
or so pages were recipes made with Entenmann's products. I felt there were enough other recipes that this wouldn't matter. The problem is no in the quantity of recipes but in the quality. After perusing the book I found that there are very few recipes that I would actually make, a few coffee cake recipes and maybe a muffin recipe. I noticed that the flour called for in most of the recipes didn't seem like enough for the finished product. How can you make a three layer cake with 1 1/2 cup of flour (Rich Chocolate Layer Cake)? Then another recipe for one 8" and one 9" called for 4 cups of flour and an Angel Cake with 8 eggs and only 1 cup of flour. The loaf cakes all look flat; the texture looking tough and I am surprised with the amount of experience that the author has that they aren't higher with a more crumbly texture. I haven't tried any of the recipes, but I have baked enough to tell that the ingredients don't add up. I have a large collection of cookbooks and since this cookbook doesn't offer recipes that I feel would work, I think I will return it.

I have a"thing" for any product associated with the name "Entenmann's". This book is a great collections of ideas and recipes that can utilize Entenmann's products. It's not that you could not find the recipes anywhere else but honestly! When there isa great coffeecake recipe that uses a streusel topping, who else but Entenmann's would you trust with that recipe?

We grew up with my Mom bringing Entenmann's home. I couldn't wait to dive in and try a few of these recipes. Muffins were a big hit this morning. Next I'm planning to test out the Nutty Granola Bars.
