A very good album. Shall I give it 4 or 5 stars? Don't know,

Intro
I bought this CD after a concert in Geneva. At the time I was very surprised that Peter Hamill was still giving us an opportunity to see him on stage, and it was by chance that I saw a little notice somewhere. The public and the band seemed not really aware of/prepared to what they were going to have in front of each other, and I remember one guy asking for some "rock and roll" and Peter Hamill replying that they were not exactly a rock and roll band, and sorry... or something like this. It was a good concert, with Jackson also there and a violonist, and maybe some others. After it, there was an opportunity to buy some CDs, and, as I knew I don't like every Hammill's CD, I engaged a conversation with a guy there, for advice, asking which were the best ones there for sale, since I knew there would not be another opportunity. (no Hammill CDs in the geneva shops at that time). I ended buying 3 CDs which were this one(Enter K), "Patience", and "Roaring Forties". And was not disappointed with any of them. So thank's to the guy... The CD now : Musicians : K/Peter Hamill - Vox Keyboards Guitar (this gives us a clue to "K" but only a clue[?]) Brain/Guy Evans - Drums Percussions Mozart/Nic Potter - Bass Fury/John Ellis - Guitar Jaxon/David Jackson - Sax on songs 2 and 5 all songs by Hammill - Recorded in 1982, Remastered 1991 The songs : those I like the most : - 2 The unconscious life (5:05) A very nice ballad. - 3 Accidents (4:35) a little disturbing, giving an impressions with dissonance and special sounds, that everything is not quite in order, to try to reproduce the feelings someone having an accident, or in the wake of one, I think, and it works well. - 4 The great experiment (5:05) Very good working song. Full of energy. Main instrument piano. - 5 Don't tell me (4:45) A beautiful and cool ballad with sadness and anxiousness at times. Main instrument piano. - 6 She wraps it up (4:20) Very good working song. Full of energy. That gives us 5 excellent songs that makes this CD worth buying, since I'ts rare to have CDs with this kind of rate of good songs versus bad ones nowadays. The songs I don't like that much: 1 Paradox drive (4:31) The debut song is the anthithesis of Hammil's usual style, based on three major chords. A glad ambiance. (Too simplistic really for Hammil) but some other themes come after that to put some more interest to this song, but not that much. And the debut, for which I suspect pressure from record companies makes me avoiding this song. 7 Happy hour (9:15) interesting moments, but overall not my cup of tea. And the end is quite repetitive... the last 4 minutes being the inlassable repetition of the same theme based on two major chords ( even if rhytmically interesting with it's 20 total beats ) 8 Seven wonders (4:39) which is also ... ... The extra song on this CD: So is it worth buying this CD just to have this song, if you already have the same CD without the extra song? No in my humble opinion. The guitar is more important on this song. The start is nice. But after that, again, it's not my cup of tea. Mainly in Major mode. I prefer minor. So overall a very good and interessting Hammil CD worth having But the same CD without the extra song may be easier to find, and/or be cheaper

Underrated,
This review is from: Enter K (Audio CD)
Massively underrated 1983 album from Hammill, during his 'K Group' era. It contains some of what I consider his greatest songs: The Unconscious Life' and 'Accidents' in particular. Because of the band makeup it has a VDGG feel to it, and though it has a couple of mediocre tracks, nothing is bad, and the best tracks make it a must-have, IMHO.'Beyond all normal pain and pleasure We should treasure the unconscious life' PS my older reviews are available under the username 'lupercal'
