5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely honest
Joan Rivers did a fabulous job with this. She was extremely honest in her descriptions with show business and describes the "business" of it so openly. Her vulnerability and strength are intertwined so vividly. She is funny,honest,intelligent,good-hearted and insecure as most, but brave enough to admit it. I would highly recommend the audiotape and book as well...

2.0 out of 5 stars Whiny
I love Joan Rivers but the beginning of this book seemed to be a lot of whining about her parents. I was turned off by it and didn't read any further. Don Rickles book is far more interesting and entertaining.

Her vulnerability and strength are intertwined so vividly. She is funny,honest,intelligent,good-hearted and insecure as most, but brave enough to admit it. I would highly recommend the audiotape and book as well. It is a great tool for anyone dealing with the emotional aspects of show business rejections. Joan Rivers proves that not only has she been a survivor thru tremendous hardships, but that she is indeed a fragile, yet strong human being. The audio makes for great listening for days stuck in traffic jams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable memoir of Joan Rivers, January 1, 2009
Joan Rivers autobiography is an entertaining read. I have not finished the book yet (have about less than 100 pages to go), but wanted to urge customers to buy this book. Her life story from Joan Molinsky, to stage name Pepper January (in Boston, when emceeing a strip show), and to her present name Joan Rivers (Rivers was borrowed from an agent she went to see), is a heart-wrenching life story. Moments in the book when her parents tried to discourage her from a stage and comedy career, I felt deeply with the author. But Joan Rivers kept on going. What a woman!! Oh well - I am going to stop writing this review, so I can pick up the book and finish it!!
Thank you Joan Rivers.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The One and Only Joan Rivers", June 12, 2011

For anyone wanting to know anything about Joan River's early life up to the time she started doing "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" in the sixties, "Enter Talking" is the book to read. Joan delves deeply into her childhood while growing up in New York state with the dream of becoming an actress, not a comedienne. She writes how she never felt as part of a clique, was determined to make it some day on the stage as a legitimate actress, and how she fell into comedy by accident.

She started writing for others, most notably Allen Funt, who hosted "Candid Camera" and this led her to somehow, by sheer magic, get a spot on "The Tonight Show", and the rest they say is history. The pages on her tenure on "Candid Camera" are not to be missed as she portrays Funt as very arrogant and almost evil and she states her knowledge of profanities comes from Allen Funt himself!

The book's release is very ironic in that it was released in 1986 when Joan left "The Tonight Show" to host her own late-night series on FOX that was a dismal failure. This was also the year Johnny Carson quit talking to Joan. That was extremely sad, partly because Joan even dedicated part of "Enter Talking" to him.

The follow-up to this book is the well-written "Still Talking" that is an exceptional read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise!!, November 16, 2010

I have followed the career of Joan Rivers for many years. I am 8 years younger than Joan. I connect with her approach to the realities of life and being "for REAL" yourself. I have quoted her "Can we Talk?" many times when confronting situations in my own life where I knew hypocrisy was in play. To me, it was absolutely fascinating to read about where this lady came from, - the details of her growing up and her true Grit! I just expected to read a book about a stand-up Comic and ended up getting a whole complex story of a life journey unlike anything familiar to myself and my journey - Except, the book is full of lessons to be learned and I found myself underlining a lot of what she shared because it related identically in principal to elements of my own life journey. A Good Read but not as good as the next book "Still Talking" which I could not put down for 3 days. I just finished it and am going to do a review for it also!!!!
