Excellent Collection of Techniques,
By A Customer
This review is from: Enter to Trapping to Grappling (Jeet Kune Do) (Paperback)
Take this book for what it is: one of the best books around if you want to learn a variety of techniques (a lot of them). Light on principles but very well illustrated this book is of value to beginner and experienced alike. Get your training partner and practice these techniques, no substitute for practice in the different ranges. If you seek in depth principles try Jeet Kune Do From A to Z.

Plethora of trapping/grappling techniques,
By
This review is from: Enter to Trapping to Grappling (Jeet Kune Do) (Paperback)
This book does a pretty good job of presenting techniques from a clinch, or another situation where one is close enought to use Wing Chun-style trapping techniques. It also covers moving into a clinch possition, as well as several takedowns and throws from said possitions. It covers using these techniques both offensively and defensively. Also covered is basic fighting stance and footwork, some standing submissions, and some leglocks for securing a person on the ground. The book was made in 1984, so it may not be 'state of the art' where some clinching and grappling techniques are concerned, compared to what has developed in modern MMA competitions. It's a decent enough book, and for someone with no knowledge of clinching, trapping, or basic upright grappling, I think it could be helpful, and is reasonably useful for MMA competition and self-defense training, but mostly as a suplementary text.

Larry makes it easy,
By A Customer
This review is from: Enter to Trapping to Grappling (Jeet Kune Do) (Paperback)
The Martial Artist of today can pick up this book and become good at self defense. Since Larry Hartsell shares the techniques of Jeet Kune Do a person can cut years off their training. This is a must for the true martial artist. Another good book is Jeet Kune Do, A NEW ERA, Groundfighting and counters to Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which is the 3rd book in line right after Larry's first 2 books. It goes into Groundfighting in depth. You can truly get a full spectrum of self defense with these 3 books.

Principles, not a manual,
By Eoin O' Sullivan (Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Enter to Trapping to Grappling (Jeet Kune Do) (Paperback)
The person who said that this book can cut years off your training probably has a 9th Dan in tying shoe laces. The book is a great guide for any martial artist who seeks to improve his/her grappling techniques and knowledge base in general. It should not be viewed as a step by step manual. Principles and illustrations can never replace physical training, only serve as a guide and open owns mind to available possibilities.

An excellent book for a taste of J.K.D.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Enter to Trapping to Grappling (Jeet Kune Do) (Paperback)
Whether a martial artist or not this book covers grappling in a very straight forward way. Borrowing concepts from other arts J.K.D. has something to offer everyone. My only complaint is that the text wasn't in-depth enough.

Entering to Trapping to Grappling
If you are interested in Jeet Kune Do trapping skills this book is a must have , the first two sections on footwork and basic trapping are an excellent resource for beginners in Jeet Kune Do as well as the later sections . While this is not a submission grappling book it can give the reader some good basic locks and holds from which he can use to grow from . Tom Macaluso Vital Point Martial Arts

A good basic guide on how to combine striking with trapping and grappling.,
By
This review is from: Enter to Trapping to Grappling (Jeet Kune Do) (Paperback)
As most martial atists know, the author was a student of Bruce Lee, and this book explains the author's approach to Jeet Kune Do. I agree with some of the previous reviewers comments; however, keep in mind that this book is merely a basic guide to some trapping and grappling techniques. It is true that someone who is an experienced fighter could counter many of these techniques, this is why I always emphasize to first hurt and injure your attacker before attempting a control type of technique.
In conclusion, the value of this book is that it shows possible methods to combine striking and grappling in a combat situation. Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Pro-Systems Combatives Vol. 1,2).

I think this is a good book Mr. Hartsell conveys his points in this book very well, i have been studying JKD and Kali extensively. One word of advice though i repeat you cannot learn jkd from a book this book is for practicioners or a beginner looking to see some techniques of jkd, there are alot of reviewers saying this book is bad and that grappling is useless and time consuming. Grappling is a skill trapping is a skill skills take time to cultivate, anything worthwhile takes time to cultivate and learn.
I find it really funny that some reviewers are stating boldly that something is useless and doesnt work if you try to use it and fail, like the old saying goes try try again.Thats the only way to make progress in the arts and life.

Hartsell on JKD,

This review is from: Enter to Trapping to Grappling (Jeet Kune Do) (Paperback)
This is one of my favorite books on JKD. Larry Hartsell combines the original art of JKD as taught to him by Bruce Lee with the more current JKD Concept. Full of easy to understand photos this book is a classic that finds favor with both OJKD and JKDC.
