I rarely post negative reviews about anything, but after reading 15 pages of "Enterprise SOA Adoption Strategies" I feel justified in warning anyone thinking about buying this book to look elsewhere. The information presented here may be of great value, but there are so many spelling and grammatical errors in this book that it makes it hard to understand the information because you are having to read extra carefully to make sense of simple English and grammar to get what the author is trying to say.

I have no doubt that Steve Jones is a competent, knowledgeable person. It is unfortunate that the information here is presented so sloppily. I don't know if InfoQ, the publisher, is a self publishing house, a fly by night operation or what, but for a book to get into print looking like this is really inexcusable. Like I said, I have only made it 15 pages in and have yet to find a single page that doesn't contain multiple mistakes. Poor grammar I can deal with to some extent, but for heaven's sake periods and commas are seriously important every once in a while for readability, especially for material like this.

Since I have the book I expect I will, eventually, make my way through. I am putting it aside for now however. I will also make sure I never buy another book from InfoQ again. If I did not have the book, I would not buy it based on my experience with these first 15 pages.

Steve's book on SOA adoption strategies is absolutely a must read for SOA architects - if you really want to understand what SOA is about. The methodology outlined by him is really worth looking at as detailed out in this book. The methodology will help you get your SOA act together and deliver services that matter to the business - that's where the true value lies!!
