5.0 out of 5 stars OH MY GOD!
I was very disappointed with the ending of the book, and the series. It was built up to be such a big finale, and then it just ended. I think the series should continue. Everworld was great, dont get me wrong about that, just the ending should have been more detailed. But like I said the series should not end at all. There were so many questions that one has to feel she lost interest or just wasn't selling enough of the series. I'm left dissappointed and waiting for Everworld 13, Conclude the Confusion.

Im the quiet, loser, geeky, loner type, and im really into mythology(BLAH I CANT SPELL!!) and for me, everworld was a way for me to come home after a long day of harsh reality and lost in a world of fantasy, magic, princesses, king, dwarves, elves and some much more. KA APPLEGATE DONT END END SOMETHING SO WONDERFUL THAT MAKES SO MANY PEOPLE HAPPY!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Heartbraking, April 19, 2003
By
This review is from: Entertain the End (Everworld, 12) (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't read books very often. I sort of pick them up and read, and if it dosen't hook my I put it down, fearing it would be a waste of my time. Very few books have actually caught my interest. Well 4, actually, The Hobbit, FOTR, TTT, and ROTK. And then, out of pure luck, I pick up a book off a shelf in a book store in the teen series section, and much to my suprise a book hooks me. A tale of 5 kids, my age, getting themselves into some kind of alternate world. You had feminist, the hero, the brains, and the joker, and the enigma. Senna. An absolutely wonderful tale of mystery, action and adventure. And as time grew on you connected with these characters, you started to understand who they were, because you were hearing what they thought about themselves and at the same time others thought about them. You become so connected with this story, and you hope its the kind of series where there will be a new one out every two months for you to go and enjoy for a long time. And then, book 12, you see the name. "Entertain the End". The End? What!!!!. Ok, so it's got to be pretty good you say to your self. And then you get to the last pages of the book. Only a few pages left, maybe three. And we were still in Hel's cavern. But how, there was a war that had to happen? David and Christopher had to make a glorious death in battle, or live out to be kings. Jalil had to make all of everworld electronic. April had to stand up and show people what women could really do. And then, these books that you have poored over for hours, connecting with, simply end. One of the very few book I ever enjoyed just ended, rolled over and died. The author whose books I followed so heartedly just got pushed aside so she could write some space age thing. I don't know what to say, It ended, but I don't think it should have. It would have been like Tolkien taking Frodo to Mt. Doom and right before he got there ended the story for no reason. This author hasn't done a very good job ending the series, and I pray that perhpas one day she might come back. In the mean time lets rally the everworld troops and flood scholastics email or something. Call me crazy, but I loved this series deepley, and I don't appreciate it ending like it did.

4.0 out of 5 stars The end of Everworld deserved better., June 21, 2001

April and the gang thought that after Senna things would be easy, but everything just got worse. In Everworld, Ka Anor is still around and the only way April and the others can win is by going back to Hel. In the real world, they have to make a choice between staying in the real world or staying in Everworld. At first this would have been a no brainer for April and the guys, but now they each have something in Everworld that might make the decision harder. This book was definitely not the best in my opinion, I liked it enough but it should have been better. The ending didn't really feel right for Everworld. The book was good for a regular Everworld read but I expected more from it because it was the last one.

1.0 out of 5 stars The End? Oh come on!, January 7, 2009

God, K.A. Applegate pisses me off so much.

I absolutely loved her Everworld series, and I finally managed to track down the last few copies after a couple years.

And then, I reach the ending of the book. What the hell is that kind of ending? All we learn is that the four decide to stay in Everworld. Nothing about Ka Anor, nothing about the Greeks, nothing about Christopher and Etain, nothing about how Everworld works, not even the Great Scroll. The list goes on and on.

After hooking us on a dozen books, don't you think we deserve some sort of conclusion? Not a damn cop out. So thanks Applegate, you got the last laugh again. I could just stand the ending to Animorphs, at least we knew what happened to the Yeerks. But this? God.

You write some fantastic novels. Please, just try to end them. Don't just throw manure into the faces of everyone who's been reading faithfully.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a letdown, March 14, 2002
This review is from: Entertain the End (Everworld, 12) (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow. That has to be the worst series-ender ever. It reads as if Applegate decided after writing installment #12 that she was tired of writing Everworld, so she tacked on an abrupt ending that left every loose end hanging, and all questions unanswered. Really disappointing.

C'mon, K.A., I'm sure you're busy, but that was absolutely lame. Wrap up the series in a better way or you've wasted a lot of time writing 12 books that aren't worth reading because it's too frustrating to get involved in a storyline that has no satisfying ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars Okay, so we were "entertained", but where is "the end"?, October 17, 2001
This review is from: Entertain the End (Everworld, 12) (Mass Market Paperback)
The concept behind this series is intriguing--the old gods leave the real world and form a world of their own; each claiming a chunk of Everworld and functioning according to the rules and sensibilities of their own society.

Thrown into this crazy quilt of cultures are five teenagers; four of whom don't know why they are there or how to get home. The fifth, Senna, is a witch who is the gateway back to the real world. Senna, of course, wants to rule the world (doesn't everybody?) and thinks that she can do that with the aid of the friends she has pulled with her into Everworld.

How do modern teenagers deal with the insanity and capriciousness of the old world gods while trying to return to the real world as well as dealing with an extra-terrestrial threat which could destroy both Everworld and the real world?

The characters mature and develop in the course of the 12 volumes. We see David assume a leadership role which is more meaningful than being on the football team. We see Jalil begin to deal with his OCD. We see April develop into a warrior instead of a one-dimensional "good girl". Christopher probably changed the most, overcoming his racial and religious bias as well as conquering his fears. Senna remains the stereotypical evil villain throughout.

The characterization of the various gods is sparse and rather predictable, but might cause a few teens to do some additional research into the myths which Applegate used as inspiration.

Unfortunately, after following the exploits of our heros for 12 volumes, the series just quits. We are left with many questions unanswered and with the disappointed feeling that we have been had.

Where is the rest of the story? what about Brigid (Irish goddess introduced in book 11, who didn't join the exodus to Everworld and who seems to have some of the answers the kids need)? Why introduce a character only to forget about her half-way through the book? Do the gods actually learn to work together to fight an outside threat? Can swords and arrows really defeat AK-47's?

I hope Applegate comes up with a volume 13 which will bring some closure. There is enough death and unanswered questions in the real world: W.T.E.--let's have a happy ending!

3.0 out of 5 stars Mistitled, January 3, 2004
This review is from: Entertain the End (Everworld, 12) (Mass Market Paperback)
First off, I would like to say that, in and of itslef, this book is pretty good. It's not the best in the series, but it holds its own. Of course one cannot understand a thing unless you have read a few of the other everworld books, at least the previous two. However, towards the end, the book seems to be a bit rushed. There is a side plot that takes place in the 'real world' that could have been drawn out more. Also, with the end of this book, the sereis does not end. There are more plot lines left hanging then completed, and most people come away feeling jipped. I doubt this is because the author lost interest in the books, after all, her last series ended in the 50's or something like that. Most likely, she wasn't selling enough copies, and was forced to drop the series, hence, the unfinished status. If your an everworld fanatic, or you are willing to finish the story using your own imagination (like I did) i recomend this book. But if your looking for closure for the series, sorry, there's hardly any to be found.

2.0 out of 5 stars What Ending?, June 22, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Entertain the End (Everworld, 12) (Mass Market Paperback)
My God, that was horrible. I read fanfiction avidly, and went online to see if I could find any about Everworld. One website I went to said the series was over. I thought 'That can't possibly be true, I have all the books from the book store, and I haven't finished the series yet.' Well, I had finished the series without noticing it.

There are two factors to JK's work that make me read her books. a) the funny pop culture humor, and b) the feeling of suspense. I can't compare her actual style to the greats, or even to the not so greats. When I read one of her books I dread reaching the end because I know I'm going to want to know as soon as I finish what happens next. After being in suspense for what seemed like forever, I read the last Animorphs book. I didn't know it was the last one until I read it. The fact that it was very obviously the last book in the series quelled that suspense, and I was therefore able to go on with a normal life without wondering what those yeerks were going to do next. I knew what happened to the yeerks. Sure, the books were about character development, relationships, personal strength, ect, but they were also a story about a war. The war ended, and therefore: the series ended.

Everworld's conflict on the other hand, did not have a clear ending. We did not learn what happened to Ka Anor. We didn't learn what happened to Loki. Senna opened a gateway between the worlds, we don't even know for sure that it closed. The loyal fans did not get an ending. They got a cop out.

And sadly, I'm most likely going to buy Remmnants #1 out of curiousity, and I'll be hooked again.

2.0 out of 5 stars A not-so-entertaining end to the series., April 22, 2001
This review is from: Entertain the End (Everworld, 12) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book, the final in the EverWorld series, was very dissapointing. If it were not the last book, it would still be poorly written, but it would not have been as bad. This is due to the very open ending. Us, the loyal fans who have followed EverWorld since the beginning, deserve a better ending, one that TRULY tells what will happen to the characters now. If you're a loyal fan, you may as well go ahead and read this, but you won't find the closure you're looking for. You'd almost be better off pretending #11 was the last book. This ending simply does not do justice to the great series that EverWorld is.
