Some of Danny Kaye's finest songs, September 4, 1998
This review is from: Entertainer Extraordinary 1941-47 (Audio CD)
Danny Kaye is always delightful. This CD contains some of his best work. Some of the songs in this CD appear in other collections but some are old lost friends I have missed since I gave up my old records. If you love Danny Kaye you will love this CD. My 2 years girl is a fan in the making. However, I haven't been able to make convert of my husband yet.

Memory Lane As Never Before!, April 8, 2005
This review is from: Entertainer Extraordinary 1941-47 (Audio CD)
Long ago before the beginning of time, my sister and I had a favorite 78-rpm record entitled "The Little Fiddle," which convulsed us with hysterical laughter every single time we heard it...which was incessantly. For years now, I have been trying to find that recording, done sometime in the late 40s by Danny Kaye.
I finally found it on this fabulous collection of the best of the young Kaye, the most extraordinary, unusual talent show business has ever known. The Little Fiddle, all 6 plus minutes of it, is here on this CD and I have relived my childhood by playing it over and over, laughing and crying, but also appreciating, for the first time as an adult, Kaye's incredible talent.
"Tubby the Tuba," another Kaye classic, is also here, and so are innumerable fabulous renderings like "Minny the Moocher," with his own brand of sly innuendo.
This is a collectors' item par excellence. I am thrilled to death to have it and recommend it highly to others who enjoy the genre.

must have funny, May 18, 2005
This review is from: Entertainer Extraordinary 1941-47 (Audio CD)
Repeat what the Winwood, PA. person says--and double it! I was another "Little Fiddle" freak, raised on Mom's 78-rpm record, which I ruined, and a tape-recorded copy of the same, on a reel-to-reel--whic I also ruined, playing them to death. Nobody modern can be funny with just his mouth and his mind like Danny Kaye could. I bought this CD on the strength of "Fiddle," "Anatole of Paris," "Fairy Pipers," which my uncle had, and "Policeman's Song," which I heard a number of years ago. also just got a biog of Mr. Kaye, and hope to enjoy that as well.
