5.0 out of 5 stars I want a boss like Mr. Stone!
I almost didn't buy this book because while I thought the last book I read from her The Tutor (Black Lace) was alright when I buy erotica I like to buy hot, steamy, out of this world not just alright. But I was browsing threw a book store and decided to read a couple pages just to see what it was about and could not put it down so I bought it and oh man was this book...

This book is hot, hot, HOT! The book starts off with a powerful boss playing games with the new employee but when it ends these two are equals and you just know they are going to have loads of fun. I'm not one who typically likes books about dominates' and submissives' or the power games they play but thankfully this book had a good balance and I wouldn't have minded a boss like Mr. Stone. Damn he's hot.

Love this book!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, December 4, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Entertaining Mr Stone (Black Lace) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am having trouble writing this book review without gushing, because it was truly a wonderful read. There wasn't one thing in the book I would change. Characters are hot and steamy and, though somewhat larger than life, still are people one hopes might really exist. The sex is super and the experiences are different from situations I have read about before. Not the usual doms and subs, but people who are real enough to be comfortable in changing roles and evolving personalities. It will be very difficult to wait for the next adventure in "Stoneland". I want to see much more (!) of Clever Bobby, Maria, and the rest.

This book is worth buying by anyone who wants hot sex, unique situations, and characters who are great fun to know.

REVIEWER'S OPINION:
Read this for the erotic scenes, not for the plot or characters. Although Mr. Stone is an unusual character. I think I'd prefer a different storyline, but for readers wishing for a turn on, this should do it.

STORY BRIEF:
Maria gets a job as a clerical worker at Borough Hall (similar to City Hall). Mr. Stone is Director of Finance (one of top management). He is average looking, middle aged, slightly graying, and somewhat thick around the middle. Maria is extremely attracted to him. He has a commanding sexual presence. They have several secret rendezvous at work. He doesn't call her for a while after each one, and she wonders if he's lost interest, and then he sweeps her into another encounter. A major storyline is Maria is drawn to Mr. Stone but doesn't know where she stands. There is still some of this even at the end. Another storyline is Mr. Stone is always planning some new and unexpected sexual encounter, usually with the risk of being seen. There are a lot of sex games including self pleasuring, handcuffs, spanking, whipping, sex in public, men with men, women with women, group sex, and bathroom activities.

DATA:
Story length: 237 pages. Swearing language: strong. Sexual language: erotic. Number of sex scenes: 14. Setting: current day town in England. Copyright: 2006. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.

OTHER BOOKS:
To date, I've read one other book by Portia Da Costa. My 3 star review of Suite Seventeen Copyright 2007 was posted 2/11/08.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Stone Rocks My World, August 10, 2009

I first came to knowledge about this book a couple of summers ago through a keen interest in Vincent D'onofrio's role as Detective Robert Goren on Law and Order's Criminal Intent and I just had to buy this book since the main character was allegedly based on him according to VDO fan sites. I am not ordinarly a consumer of erotica and I hate to sound cliche' but the book was welded to my hands for a straight through read. And then I had to read it again and again. I was immediately swept away and I found that Stone is a darker shadier and even sexier character who looks remarkably like LOCI's Bobby Goren but who gleefully explores all the hot fantasies that the female fans of Vinnie D would gladly act out with him if they could. So, if you are a long time fan of Mr. D'onofrio and his brilliant character actor roles and sexy leads in his varied movies, or if you follow the show and drool over the manly endearing, powerful yet quirky character of Bobby Goren, this book with give you goose bumps you will actually picture Robert Goren as the darker, British version of himself as Mr. Robert Stone. And likewise, if you are solely a fan of erotica this book will stand alone as a thrill a minute romp and it just might make you want to go watch the show and see what Mr. Stone looks like and get to know the off-beat character from which he's been derived. As for me, it made me want to go work in some dusty outwardly boring looking office hoping there is a tall handsome captivating sexy man boss with dark eyes searing right into my very soul ready to take me to "Stone World" and never come back.

A young 'hottie' stuck in the doldrums of trying to pay her mounting bills has a 'Monika Walinsky' moment when she inadvertently bumps into one of the chief honchos of the company who has an office so high in the tower of power girls like Maria get nosebleeds there.

Mr Stone, certainly takes note of Maria and lets her know, in no uncertain terms, that he is more than interested in playing those wonderfully naughty little office games that may be considered taboo, but hey what would life be like without a little naughtiness....

The author is a master of writing erotic scenes hot are so yummie you just have to read them over and over. Also in order for the book to be a true five star special both the characters and the encounters have to be REAL, and believable, and, now here's the trick there must be a STORY that fit into place rather than just gratuitous couplings.

All of these featrures and writing skills are in this book .... and then some ....

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising Enjoyable Read!, June 25, 2009
This review is from: Entertaining Mr Stone (Black Lace) (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book thinking the synopsis had an interesting kink to it, and was entirely different than what I've been reading. And who doesn't like an office fantasy to energize the everyday? I had zero expectations though and once I began reading, I finished it easily in a night! Wow, Ms Da Costa is not one for mincing words, and I found her bold, to-the-point writing quite exhilarating. Reading as Maria Lewis, I easily stepped into her point-of-view like a joyride! I was absorbed into the game play of Ms Lewis and Mr. Stone at the office, and then couldn't wait to see where/if it would lead outside of it. The Power Games are fun and harmless, not really BDSM but more about Trust- who owns it and who gains it. I found Mr Stone endearing in many ways as a player, but also as a caring lover. I wish a few of the side characters were more fleshed out as they felt a bit rushed; I would've liked reading more about lesbian Mel, young Greg and of course, the handsome Bi, William! But all in all, for what it's worth, this little book is a fun, Brit romp that entertains the reader as well as Mr Stone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Entertainment!, May 22, 2008
This review is from: Entertaining Mr Stone (Black Lace) (Mass Market Paperback)
Portia da Costa's 'Entertaining Mr Stone' is dazzling. Written in a fun, funky style, it introduces us to a very appealing heroine and a lusty, sexy hero. The writing is lyrical and HOT. The author writes about yearning and women's desires in a modern, sympathetic way. I found the book utterly unputdownable.
