A fun book with great food!,
By Armchair Interviews (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Entertaining with the Sopranos (Hardcover)
I have now seen everything! A book on entertaining from America's favorite mob family, the Sopranos. And what a fun and tasty book it is. It's an inside look at the fictional television family from the perspective of what good entertaining is: a mix of good food, tips and techniques and vignettes about entertaining from the Soprano's family and friends.
The book covers all occasions from Baptisms, Communions and Confirmations to Graduation Parties, Bridal Showers and Receptions, Holidays, Birthdays and Small Events for Women Only and Men Only. I enjoyed the logical suggestions by Charmaine Bucco when discussing the timeline to "pull off" an event. I chuckled when reading "When Things Go Terribly Wrong" and I laughed out loud reading Bobby Bacala's tips for controlling the out-of-control guest. I actually read the directions for the proper way to fold napkins and learned some things about expensive cigars and poker etiquette. And I drooled over the recipes. The Spaghetti Pie is delicious, not to mention easy to make. The Green Bean, Potato, and Red Onion Salad is scrumptious and the ingredients are probably already in your kitchen just waiting for you to use them. The Insalata Caprese will make your mouth water and the Potato Pie and Roasted Potatoes with Rosemary and Garlic will "hit the spot." But the Anginetti (Lemon Knot Cookies) is simply mouth watering. Armchair Interviews says: If you're a fan of the Sopranos or you just want a fun read with 75 scrumptious recipes for all occasions, Entertaining with the Sopranos is the book to buy. It is the complete guide to entertaining complete with wonderful photographs and interviews with your favorite mob family.

Rucker's Best Yet!!,
By
This review is from: Entertaining with the Sopranos (Hardcover)
Allen Rucker continues to have a handle on brilliant and entertaining writing. The recipes are fabulous, the pictures are tops - but the sidebar stories and historical/background info is interesting and captivating! Rucker is the author to follow - he brings humor and down-to-earth thoughts to his work!

A must for Sopranos fans! ... and here's a good recipe...,

As others have said, the book is a hoot. I especially loved the interview with "Uncle June," who can't stay focused and keeps wandering off on tangents. I did not find too many recipes I wanted to make, but I did try the Pizza Rustica (Easter Pie). I took quite a few liberties with the recipe, including using a ready-made Pillsbury crust, and using only prosciutto and a little bacon instead of all the capicola ("gabagool") and other meats that are suggested. I also didn't use cubes of mozzarella, but did include two cloves of minced garlic which I sauteed with the bacon and prosciutto. The pie was easy, tasted FABULOUS, and looked very pretty and professional when it came out of the pan! It will definitely become a staple in our house.

Do not buy this for a cookbook....,

You will be disappointed if you buy this book for a cookbook. It does contain some great recipes but few of them. The photographs are great! The book is about the Soprano family and how they entertain. It is written as if the Sopranos were a real family and is funny at times.

Ok... I bought this book because I love the Soprano's... but I got more than I bargained for! This book is hilarious and believe it or not... there are some awesome recipes in here that even the worst cook can cook! Reading this book was like spending an evening with the Sopranos! Here you go... I liked this book so much that I am thinking of buying a few more to give out as Christmas presents! You really couldn't go wrong... not only is it funny, so it is entertaining... it has great recipes that are easy to make and taste awesome! Sounds like a gift to me! They should come out with another one... I would buy it! Get it... you won't be sorry! Totally happy with this purchase! Bada bing, bada boom!

Delicious recipes and tips from Carmela and the family on planning and hostessing confirmations, graduation parties, weddings and, yes, funerals too! Written in a lively, conversational style with luscious pictures of the food and colorful comments from the story characters.

As someone who does give a lot of parties, and I am totally at one with the style of Amy Sedaris (I like You, Entertaining under the influence) and always aspired to Carmella's style, I love this book! I like Amy's hilarious book too. They are QUITE different.
I just started watching the Sopranos and having the cook book is cute and fun. I am enjoying the humerous characters giving advice. It is actually very good advice! As a cook book; it has party menu plans and recipes and they are doable and quite good. Plus, I never would have thought of putting a white serving plate on a white tablecloth with white flowers...really! I am not joking. It never would have crossed my mind! It really does make things look pretty. I think that the photos and menus are great. I like the review question # 4; I am over the age of 13, hee hee...I am 50 and I have given a lot of parties. I have party anxiety everytime! I especially liked Doctor Melfi's advice on that.

Quite good :->,

This review is from: Entertaining with the Sopranos (Hardcover)
Being a fan of the Sopranos, I decided to check this out. This is one weird/good book. Weird because it's from the Sopranos, but good because all the recipes look delicious. I've yet to try making anything, but they look easy enough to make and so I'm going to give it a go. The pictures are great and there are fun tidbits from some of the stars of the show. It's an entertaining book in more ways than one (get it?). Even if you aren't a fan of the show but love to cook, you should check this out too. It's worth while.
