Excellent book,
By Chris Riffle (Bradford, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Entertaining Spirits Unaware (Paperback)
I found the book to be biblical and helpful in understanding the infiltration of the occult in our popular culture, although I am sure it will ruffle some feathers. Rooted soundly in scripture, the authors avoid the trap of fanaticism and superstition. Today's common practices are soundly linked to the 9 forbidden practices of the Old Testiment. Obviously, if you are not a Christian, if you do not accept the authority of scripture, including the existence of Satan and evil spirits, you will find this book to be far fetched. For those who are Christian, this book will enlighten you to the ways Satan uses to sneak his dogma and influence into our lives. This is an especially valuable resource for parents or those involved in ministry to children.

This is a "Must Read" Book!,
By Bart Spencer (Garland, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Entertaining Spirits Unaware (Paperback)
The book Entertaining Spirits Unaware is a "must read" for anyone desiring to understand the world of the occult from a biblical perspective. It is well researched, thoroughly documented and easy to read.Benoit and Barger have obvious knowledge of the subject and have taken what appear to be great pains to in laying out their case in a masterful way. In a world that has so easily accepted occultism in so many so called "harmless" forms we need more books such as this. Although controversial in the eyes of the uninformed and a lightning rod to those who favor the occult and mystic philosophies around us, the book and the insight and the documentation it offers speaks for itself. Since Harry Potter and Pokemon have gained such great acceptability today, we need men like this to make us think twice. Concerned parents should have a copy of this book as a first line of defense for the endless onslaught of occultism being endorsed in today's entertainment. It is obvious that the issues they discuss has made Benoit and Barger lightning rods attracting the disdain of many for their blunt rejection of the occult. This no doubt is front-line spiritual warfare. When one reads the negative reviews here in Amazon it becomes quickly obvious that those disfavoring Entertaining Spirits Unaware do so due from their misunderstanding of the issue and have probably never read the book in the first place. In one case it is most likely due to their own personal occult involvement. Just read the "Wish Lists" of those individuals to get a clear perspective. But certainly don't let that stop you from getting this book. You will refer to it repeatedly as we have in our home.

This has got to be the best, straightforward book out there about the dangers of the occult lurking in our own homes. It is amazing how easily this stuff is slipped under our doors. Thanks to this book the proliferation of the occult has become readily obvious. Just take a browse through the toy store. You will be shocked at the shear volume of 'childrens toys' that are related to the occult and witchcraft these days. Though this book cannot list every occurence of such, it will open your eyes to the reality of occultic existance that floods our society. We must open our eyes and stop compromising every issue. As a nation we have reached the point of 'calling evil good and good evil'. Thank God for men like Eric and David who will stand up and proclaim the Gospel. Bravo Misters Barger, and Benoit.

Entertaining Spirits Unaware,

This review is from: Entertaining Spirits Unaware (Paperback)
Authors, Benoit & Barger have done an excellent job in exposing the subtleness of the "occult" in easy to read vocabulary that even a 5th to 6th grader could read. The books is organized in two parts: First half is an explanation of 9 forbidden practices according to the bible: Human Sacrifice; Divination(Fortune Telling); Astrology; Enchanter; Witchcraft; Charmers; Condsulter with Familiar Sprits; Wizards, Magicians and Socerers; Necromancy. Each topic is supported by biblical text followed by an explanation. The second part is entertaining spirits unaware: Enemy inflitration; What's in the Cartoon; Hollywood; Harry Potter; Pokemon; Halloween. The book concludes with what you must do in practical terms. Those whom are genuinely concerned about staying away from the occult and recognize and respect the darkness of such activities, must read this book. The authors are very forthright and strong with their statements. They do not try to please the reader by sugar coating the subjects, but instead state the facts and the hard truth and consequences of allowing the occult in your home and identifying the occult. The authors also emphasize that the religious zealots can also take the awareness of occult infiltration too far and become hermits; hiding from the world or too condeming of others. The authors warn about extreemism. This provides an equitable balance in discussing a difficult subject as the occult. Those whom are involved in some form of the occult and do not want to heed to the advice of the authors and approach this book with a pre-conceptions or closed mind, will take this book as a "fanatic's view". However, the book must be read completely because the authors have take a well- thought systamatic approach in exposing the foundation of the occult. This book has helped me understand the principals or "teachings" of the occult, to be able to "spot" those things which are subtle but have all the elements of the occult. Parents are so concerned about their children and the internet, but become very lax in what their children read or see on TV/movies and then wonder why there are so many problems with our youth. Yet, parents are simply unaware of how much their children are in direct contact with the occult on a daily bases. Don't be too smug and think your children are not exposed to the occult. I thought mine were not exposed and was wrong! A definite resource book for parents to protect their children and themselves from the web of the occult. Learn how to find those "spider webs of the occult" and stay clear so that you and your children do not become victims of the Satanic influences. This book is a MUST read to all those who do not want to support the Satanic realm!

False Witnesses,

This review is from: Entertaining Spirits Unaware (Paperback)
A quotation from the book: "As for those who somehow equate Harry Potter to the writings of C. S. Lewis or J. R. R. Tolkien, we submit that in these perilous times, with witchcraft rising to unparalleled peaks, that those wishing to truly guide their children toward the cross of Christ might well think twice before putting Tolkien or Lewis into their young hands. Would Lewis have written the way he did decades ago if he could have seen the occult explosion around us today? Even though Lewis showed obvious sympathy toward paganism, IF HE WAS INDEED THE APOLOGIST FOR CHRISTIANITY THAT MANY MAKE HIM OUT TO HAVE BEEN [reviewer's emphasis], we think he would have used a different approach." That these men question the Christian credentials of C. S. Lewis is truly bizarre. It's a reasonable certainty that Lewis' speeches, radio talks, and books converted more people to Christianity in the 20th Century than anybody other than Billy Graham. This shows just how separated from the truth they are. The rest of the book is just as ludicrous.

If you have no personal experience with the supernatural, do not bother posting about this book. This book deals with the supernatural.

A Kid's Review

To my fellow Christians: let these people look like fools all by themselves, and stop following people like this, because you are making the rest of us look crazy!! I'm not agreeing with the non-christian reviewers that this book is wrong because the people who wrote it believe the bible to truly be the word of god: I'm just saying these guys fit perfectly into the scriptural mold of Titus 1:15 "To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and unbelieving, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted". We're supposed to be redeeming our culture not burning it! These guys see satan in EVERYTHING! I agree with the comment about rabbits being evil 'cuz their ears look like devil horns. When the apostle Paul was on Mars Hill he used one of their idols, and the words of one of their pagan poets to PREACH THE GOSPEL! I guess we should throw Paul out too? The reason what they perceive as "subtle indoctrination" is so subtle is because IT'S NOT INDOCTRINATION!!! Believe me, when you get into actual witchcraft, it is VERY OVERT.

Pokemon promoting Satan? Insane! Reading Harry Potter risks going to Hell? Absurd! Halloween? It is just a holiday! Eric Barger needs to go out, get a life, and enjoy it. He doesnt need to scrutinize everything for Satan! He said he was once a cocaine addict. An ex-cocaine addict, teaching our children? Are we just as crazy as him? I dont know about the previous viewer, but DONT get this book! Spend your valuable cash on something else, not this! You'll be glad you did!

This book is great. It follows the doomed crusade of two sad men who try ridding the world of an ageless evil which their deranged minds can only see. Two thumbs up. (Do two thumbs look like horns? They must be satanic!)

I dont think any of the negative reviewers are "misinformed" as one individual puts it. No, the authors are "misinformed". Here are some of the many mistakes. Halloween has nothing to do with Satan. It originates from the spanish holiday, "Day of the Dead" a festival to celebrate the remembrance of someone's lost loved ones. Ooooh. Really satanic. I shall be damned to Hell for asking for candy or remembering my loved ones. Harry Potter; From his point of view, it is the devil's trap to lure readers into Hell. Why? It deals with witches. But, Harry does not do anything for wiccans. No. He has a godfather. Last time I heard, GODfathers are part of christianity. Pokemon: I dont see anything demonic here, Mr. Barger. Annoying maybe, but not demonic. Perhaps Pikachu's pointed ears represent horns of Satan? But then again, so do rabbits and cats and bats and... He also believes aliens are tools of satan to make us believe in the supernatural in judgement day. That, sounds crazy. Perhaps Eric and his friend, Mr. Benoit are worried that these books will lead them to make decisions for themselves, and turn away from these over-religous bigots. If you want to fork over your cash to support these madmen, go ahead. Similarily, if you want to jump out a window, go ahead. |
