Own the Eclectic album as a purist. Own Entheogen as a barnacle clinging to the Titanic. Own The Seraphim Fall as a member of the faith. Don't own Three Humid Nights in the Cypress Tree. Sorry Steve Albini... I'll calm down, but I'm shaking.

Bloodlet, Entheogen (Victory Records, 1996)
Okay, to start off with: Bloodlet are on Victory Records (think Integrity here).
Now that you know what you're getting into, buy away. You know what to expect. Hardcore vocal delivery, metal/core crossover music. Right?
To an extent. Bloodlet transcend the usual hardcore stylings by doing such things as recording songs that actually last more than five minutes, incorporating jazz and classical influences, and playing with the mixing board (listen to "Something Wicked" in headphones). Rather than the usual wall of sound, the band breaks every once in a while for a more obviously jazz-influenced bridge (and the lead vocalist's voice sounds oddly comparable to Maynard James Keenan's, during Tool's live renditions of "Bottom").
Bottom line is, if you don't mind the hardcore vocal style, you're probably going to get something out of this one. Very good stuff. *** ½

Pi**ed? This one's for you. One of the most brutal, angry bands in the hardcore scene tear out their own souls and burn them in front of you for your dining pleasure. It only gets scarier by reading the lyrics (Which, as is fairly common in this genre, are almost indecipherable otherwise). The slower bits with much clearer vocals are actually more frightening than the gut-wrenching screaming. A must have for anyone who can appreciate the truly intense musical experience.
