I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to track with any kind of dog. The method is designed for the dog to always have success, and it's fun for both owner & dog. I am fortunate to have this book in my library & also to have attended a seminar by the author & to have been given tracklaying pointers by him the first time I laid a track for a tracking test. I can attest that he is an excellent teacher!

No fanfare or complications. Just a simple book with simple terms and diagrams that anyone can understand. I have met Sil a few times at Earth Dog trials. VERY good dog trainer.

I bought this book hoping for starter help with my first tracking dog. This has been a great asset to me and my friends. It was not written at a time when there was a VST title but if you can get to the TDX level then I think that is a great start.

This is quite nice starting points, for more experienced there is some thoughts. But this is in general for people who hasn't tracked before.

This was a first! Teaching myself and my weimaraner "Woody" to track. I had a wonderful mentor, but still found this book invaluable. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to interact with their dogs and feel confident in their dogs natural abilities and your own learned abilities! This book is recommended reading by many established dog clubs and tracking judges!

If you want to obtain an AKC TD or TDX title on your dog, then please consult this book.

Sil's reference breed is a West Highland Terrier. But the principals, tracking drills, and advice in the book apply to any breed.

An excellent hand book for dog owners who wish to go tracking with their dogs.

This is the best book to train puppies or adult dogs. You can train your dog by yourself if you don't have acces to a group that trains tracking.

I bought this book on a whim, thinking I could teach my new dog to track. The step by step instructions made this a most enjoyable adventure. Within weeks, my dog and I were playing "hide and seek."

Although I didn't get to far in the manual, my dog could, and did, track me through a group of 600 people! She also used her new found game to find me when I left her home once to go to the hospital for surgery.

For an inexperienced handler to be able to harness a dog's natural ability like this is amazing (although I'm happy someone saw her and brought her back home before she got to the hospital).

What a great book!
