5.0 out of 5 stars This phenomena is real!, August 30, 2002

This review is from: Enticed by the Light: The Terrifying Story of One Woman's Encounter With the New Age (Paperback)
I would have an extremely hard time believing this story if it were not for a spiritualist whom my aunt visits. This spiritualist also has voices talking to her inside of her head, which I would attribute to insanity or obsession, except that these "voices" are able to discern information about our family that is not otherwise available. They seem to be extremely accurate in identifying the deep dark sins of the family, which to me is evidence of their demonic origin. The spiritualist was also able to describe my aunt's comforter in great detail, and she had never been to the house. So I am very convinced that the spirit channeling described in this book is indeed possible. I am also convinced that Jesus Christ is the only way to be freed from it, but nobody wants to hear that these days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting comments, April 28, 2001
This review is from: Enticed by the Light: The Terrifying Story of One Woman's Encounter With the New Age (Paperback)
I was at Amazon to order a book and decided to see if this book was still listed. Read comments with interest. I can affirm there is no untruth in the book. My younger sister's only purpose in writing was to share and help others avoid the pitfalls she went through. I watched her go through those years, constantly praying for her. This book is the answer to those prayers. Glory be to the Father!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beware the New Age, December 12, 2007
This review is from: Enticed by the Light: The Terrifying Story of One Woman's Encounter With the New Age (Paperback)
This is a very good book written by Sharon Beekman that trusted the "spirit guides" that promised her fulfillment. By the time she discovered their frightening, true identity, it was too late-they had taken control of her mind...tormenting her, attacking her sanity, pushing her to the brink of suicide. But in her darkest hour, Sharon discovered a Savior, Jesus Christ, who is powerful enough to free her from the evil that threatened to destroy her. This book is a revealing look at New Age practices and the dangers involved. I really enjoyed this book and I could relate to some of the things in it, as I also had tried some of the New Age teachings, with their empty promises. This is a remarkable testimony to the liberating power of Jesus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, On-the-mark Look at New Age, September 14, 1998

Sharon Beekman provides a clear view of the subtle and seductive dangers involved in New Age practices. Her honest description of how and why she became involved in the New Age, as well as her both positive and negative experiences echo those of others who have sought the seemingly refreshing alternatives offered by the various aspects of New Age. She unflinchingly examines her own mindset both at the time of her involvement and during the tormented years she spent trying to free herself from the attack of spiritual forces conjured by her association. Ultimately, she comes to recognize the one, true path to freedom and enlightenment and shares how her life has changed in the decade since she made this discovery. As someone with personal experience of the hidden dangers of the New Age, I applaud Sharon Beekman's courage and faith as she takes an increasingly unpopular stand against the growing New Age movement.

It deals with obsessions and isolation in the experiences and in the solution. A good read for those in the Psychological field.

This review is from: Enticed by the Light: The Terrifying Story of One Woman's Encounter With the New Age (Paperback)
To me, Sharon Beekmann's story was both interesting and credible. I have had no such experiences, but they ring true to my mind, and I found them intensely interesting.

I found this book to be quite interesting and helpful. It did answer some of my questions, but unfortunately it ended up leaving me with new unanswered questions.

One must be careful of any spiritual practice that they become involved in. The author did not seem to be wary, and jumped right into different New Age modalities and got way more than she bargained for.

As a channeler who wanted her individuality back, she asked her Angels and Guides to leave. One did not want to leave and turned on her, causing her untold pain and grief. Only her training as a psychologist and her belief in God helped keep her sane through it all.

I really do not understand a few things in the book, such as why she did not try out some of the stuff she was taught that would work when she first started out, instead of waiting until she got into trouble. And the second thing that left me wondering is why weren't the Pastors and Prayer Warriors that she contacted for an exorcism able to immediately cast out, or even bind the 'demon' in Jesus name?

This book kind of reminds me of one I read from Chick Publications about a woman who was demon possessed. After the authorities investigated the womans claims, they found that she was totally weird, had occult books all over the house, and had her so called possessed friend strung out on medication. I really hope this author is not just stringing us along.

And one more pet peeve of mine is that we are bio-electric beings, and our energy field can somewhat be measured and manipulated by scientific means. Just because New Agers train themselves to work on one's chi, aura and chakras, does not mean it is evil. I let my doctor, dentist, RMT, chiropractor and acupuncturist work on me without questioning their religious beliefs beforehand.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in becoming involved with anything New Age related, and/or trying to get out of the New Age. But I would also highly recommend questioning some of the stuff she says.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharon sheds light of truth on the new age, July 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Enticed by the Light: The Terrifying Story of One Woman's Encounter With the New Age (Paperback)
Sharons story is a great example of what can happen to people involved in the new age. Personally I've seen people that has ended up in psychiatric care after newagecourses and some of those led by a woman that claimed she knew how to distingush between the dark, the false and the light, the truth energies. It looked like she did but there are many forces out there, it's not easy to tell them apart and they can put up quite a show with many mindgames to get us to trust them. Sharon's book is a must read to educate people about this. It's so easy to be fooled and misled.

3.0 out of 5 stars It Is Unfortunate, January 5, 2010

This review is from: Enticed by the Light: The Terrifying Story of One Woman's Encounter With the New Age (Paperback)
Demonic activity and influence can exist within any realm, or community, of spirituality, and that includes the charismatic and evangelical christian community.

I am a born again christian with a gift of telepathy and psychic ability. Do these gifts mean I invite and consort with demons? No. Absolutely not. God gave me these gifts, they are part and parcel of being human and being made in the image of God.

People invite Demons when they have fear and hatred in their hearts.

I know many evangelical Christians who regularly, mindlessly, channel demonic entities and who encourage them to hate and fear "others." In the Pentecostal Church where I became Born Again, I was subjected to brainwashing toward hate and fear of Jews, immediately after I became Born Again. I remember sitting in a bible study being told by a pastor that I had to agree that "It would be a good idea to use a nuclear bomb on Israel because the Jews are evil and will give the world the Anti-Christ" and that if I didn't agree with this statement, it was proof that I had "backslid" and needed to become Born Again, again.

Being fearful and judgmental of "others" and encouraging the types of conscious thought that demons enjoy and promote IS an invitation to demonic influence, no matter how Christian you believe yourself to be. Sharon Beekman has the audacity to tell psychics that they cannot be Christians, because of their ability to use their gifts without fear, hatred, or manifestation of the textbook symptoms of the schizo-affective disorder which she suffered. It's too bad that schizophrenic disorders were part of her family legacy, but it doesn't make her an expert on Christianity or the New Age. It just makes her deeply in denial about her own mental health.

If members of Christian community would commit themselves to practicing what Jesus taught - love, non-judgment, forgiveness, and inclusion, disinterest in material wealth, interest in the HEALTHY life of spirit beyond physical life - demonic entities would have very little to attach themselves to and we would all be free of the affects of demonic activity.

Think about this the next time you find yourself being pressured in your Christian (or other religious) community to engage in hate, fear, judgment, and non-inclusion of "others."

Spiritual beings who love to promote hate, judgment, fear, loathing, prejudice, and pride, are demonic. Jesus Christ teaches and gives us love and compassion without reserve or judgment. If we accept his lessons and his gift, we cannot be used as tools of the demonic, no matter where we are, what our gifts are, and what spiritual communities we live and work within.
