4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than it's reputation., September 20, 2006
This review is from: The Entity (Mass Market Paperback)
This short review only to offer a different perspective of this novel. It is true, there are several flaws with this novel. I know; I've read it twice. However, this novel is much better than its critics have always considered it to be. And irrespective of it's claim to being based on a true incident(I, myself, don't really care), the novel succeeds as a supernatural investigation, although it isn't a "mystery/detective" novel.

In fact, I found that the book developed its supernatural components in very satisfyin rich layers. While it's true the book is too long and too wordy, it is nonetheless exceptionally interesting; and therefore, I didn't care reading the "extra" pages. In fact, I actually I enjoyed reading them.

Imagaine That!

Again, in terms of the supernatural component and plot; it has a depth that I haven't found in other horror novels, even well-regarded ones. And for this reason, I highly recommend it.

Come to it with this mindset: pretend that it is indeed a true account; that is, pretend you're reading a true crime novel and not a fictional one. I think you would not be disapointed aside from its obvioius flaws. And be prepared to read a novel that's a little too long. If you're too impatient, you'll get a bit frustrated. But if you're motivated, you'll soak up the supernatural like you haven't before.

Then, get some popcorn and watch the movie, which is also much better than most critics have regarded it to be.

Boo!

5.0 out of 5 stars I thought it was cool!!, March 2, 2000

This review is from: The Entity: A novel (Hardcover)
I really loved this book. I've seen the movie, before I read the book and I love the book a million times more than the movie. You really get into the life of Carlotta (Carla in the movie). You get flashbacks of her life from when she was a child, to her first and second marriage. And the ending IS different. This book scared me constantly while reading it, it kind of freaks me out to hear that it's based on a true story. All in all, if you find a copy of it, BUY IT... it's now out of print, and worth your time for reading..

4.0 out of 5 stars Ghost story I've spoken of most often!, July 8, 2009
By
This review is from: The Entity (Paperback)
I will agree with others, that the novel is a bit wordy, however the story is scary. What made my skin crawl the most was the police report/eye witness account of the boyfriend, this just creeped me out!

I really enjoyed the movie also, I believe it stayed true to the important bits in the book.

If you enjoy this type of story, a must read, as I mention in the title, I have spoken of this book/story more often then any other "based on real events" ghost story.
