This review is from: Entity Possession: Freeing the Energy Body of Negative Influences (Paperback)
Those who accept spirit possession usually think in terms of an "earthbound" spirit taking control of a human or at least influencing that person. However, the entity possession that the author of this book addresses is not quite the same thing. "Entities are not full human spirits who have lost their way and become attached to a living human being," Dr. Sagan explains. "If four weeks after the death of your aunt you happen to catch an entity that feels like her, it is just a fragment of her astral body, not her immortal soul trapped inside you." A graduate of the Paris 5 Faculty of Medicine, who also studied Sanskrit, Sagan now direct the Clairvision School in Sydney, Australia. There he helps clients dislodge themselves of these astral "parasites" through an expanded state of perception. The book contains many case studies in which clients are brought to focus on an entity and then to clear themselves of it. While apparently unique in Western parapsychology, such entity possession is, according to Sagan, well documented in Eastern esoteric sources. To help us understand it, Sagan first explains the four-fold nature of the human being. The lower complex is the physical body and the etheric body. The etheric is the life of the physical and apparently seen as the aura. The upper complex is the astral body and the Ego or Higher Self. Our thoughts and emotions are contained within the astral body, which is entangled like a spider web around the Ego and encased within the etheric body. At physical death, the upper complex separates from the lower, leaving the physical body to decay and the etheric body to dissolve in the ethers. However, as the etheric body dissolves, the shattering of the astral body begins. Sagan says that it is not uncommon for the astral fragments to retain their etheric parts with which they used to be connected. These fragments are imprinted with characteristics of the person, including cravings, addictions, emotions, and traits. If the person was an alcoholic, his astral fragments go wandering around in astral space looking for something to satisfy them. As like attracts like in the astral world, an alcoholic fragment will be attracted to living people who crave alcohol. The etheric body of living humans has its own defense mechanism. Therefore, it is usually in "high risk" situations, such as surgery, an accident, or intoxication, when the defense mechanism is down, that the astral parasites can attach themselves. While mainstream medicine no doubt looks askance at Sagan, he writes with authority and conviction. Most of it makes metaphysical sense, or at least as much sense as the alternative theories. It is an intriguing read.

Dr.Sagan's Entity Possession is written with a matter-of-fact tone that this subject matter deserves. A straight-forward scientific presentation of subtle energy influences without the mystical journey overtones. A must read for serious Energy Healers and anyoneone else that perceives subtle energies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical information, February 2, 2000
This review is from: Entity Possession: Freeing the Energy Body of Negative Influences (Paperback)
Dr Sagan manages to normalise a phenomenom that is really quite mis-understood or not even seen in the world today.

Through concise documentatin of case studies he clearly outlines how to find them and what types of effects that result in ones energy and mind due to their intrusion. He also discusses the mechanisms by which they got there in the first place.

In his book, it appears that these little parasties of our body of energy are not easy to get, but once in there and observed, can be easily removed by a qualified entity clearer.

A fascinating read into the entity phenomenum....

I was so surprised to read that common illnesses could be caused by non-physical things.

Absolutely fascinating reading for anyone open to new perspectives on physical and emotional health.

Having read Dr. Sagan's book and expecting to understand what an "entity" truly is, I find that unfortunately he missed the point.
His book is in fact mostly a manual of sessions he had with his patients, a very little part is devoted to the explanation per se. He goes on and on and on transcribing his sessions, we read the symptoms, but the cause or the true constitution of an "entity" is never made clear. It remains a mystery, and what is even more frustrating is that he affirms that no one can free you of these "entities" (???) except himself or his followers/practitioners.

And moreover, in the rare cases where he is not transcribing, he is just reciting what others (Chinese and other cultures) have to say about this.
In short, and according to him, any energy blockage, any - I dare say - symptom related to serious mental disorders like schizophrenia for example, will, to him, be classified as an "entity" that "speaks", and what is even more frustrating is that he affirms that you can catch these entities anywhere and at any point in your life, especially if you go into hospital to give birth for example.

This is a DISEMPOWERING book. I definitely do not recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Do Entities Exist? This Book is Very Convincing, January 1, 2010
This review is from: Entity Possession: Freeing the Energy Body of Negative Influences (Paperback)
As a publisher of books with similar content (The Sex Connection by Alan Fitzpatrick), I was quite impressed with Dr. Sagan's frankness and thoroughness on the subject of entities. His detailed descriptions and categorizations are very convincing. I do not endorse the therapy, necessarily, but I applaud the author's effort to approach this delicate subject in the face of, I'm sure, some adverse criticism from the medical paradigm in which he works. Thank you, Dr. Sagan, for bringing a "dark" subject into the light. The Sex Connection, A Study of Desire, Seduction and Compulsion

4.0 out of 5 stars interview with an entity, September 28, 2011

This review is from: Entity Possession: Freeing the Energy Body of Negative Influences (Paperback)
This book provides an explanation of different cultural beliefs about entities. It also gives a complete overview of the different ways and kinds of energy that can attach to someone's field. It talks about astral fragments, energy cords, entities, etc. A large part of the book is sharing what he calls case history. It is like an interview with the person where he is asking questions about the entity before it is removed. He interviews the person while they are in the ISIS state..something he never really defines other than to say what it is not. (not hypnosis) It sounds very much like some kind of hypnosis however. There is another book mentioned by this author that talks about that process. Maybe one can better understand his terms if they read that book first? In the' ISIS state' the host is asked where the entity is lodged in the physical body, what it likes to eat, what it wants to do, etc
At any rate, this author has a pretty long and involved process for 'clearing' negative energy. He does it at his clinic and the details are not shared in this book. If you are looking for information about how to clear entities, this is not the place to look. He does not share any of those details. He only gives a few pieces of information in that regard. One of them is that the entity must be observed for a full 10 days before clearing because they can move and hide.
I am happy to have this book. I learned a lot. For instance, I was not aware that the astral body shatters at death and that the pieces can attach to someone else's field. He says a large part of entity issues are in this category.
My critic of this book is that he does not give any information about how to clear negative entities. I suspect that is because he runs a school where he teaches how to do that. Clearly he wants to attract more students.
I think a better title for the book may have been...Interview with an Entity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best treatment of this subject I have read to date, August 20, 2011

"Entity" is the term Sagan chooses to describe various disturbances that prevent normal or ideal cognitive functioning. This theory and accompanying theories are the accumulated effect of Sagan's lifelong research both as a trained doctor (he has an MD), practitioner of meditation, and student of Sanskrit and Eastern esoteric theories of consciousness. The conclusion he reaches is in some sense a synthesis of these different elements and, as a result, requires fairly detailed consideration as many related theories are not likely to be familiar to a Western audience.

The first concept upon which all other element are based is that consciousness rests in an layer of energy (or "astral body") which is roughly mapped to the physical body. This layer of energy, however, is subject to various disturbances which are the source of many of the subconscious reactions that people have. These are divided into two basic types. The first is a samskara, a scar of sorts that is usually the result of some trauma. The second is an "entity," which is the subject of this book. The idea (and Sagan supports this by detailing different ritual practices for dealing with the dead in many traditional settings) is that most entities are actually parts of the astral bodies of deceased people and which introduce a certain desire or set of desires into the "subconscious" of the person who absorbs them.

I find this a particularly welcome addition to the literature on demon possession, which in general seems to lack any sort of theoretical grounding and, although there are various experiences and related descriptions which demand a deeper explanation, simply referring to "demons" seems entirely inadequate. The strengths of Sagan's framework are the following:

(1) Sagan's descriptions are his own and not derived from any school but a synthesis born out of study and practice. Although his word choice is unusual, it is usually because he is attempting (appropriately, in my opinion) to present things freshly for a Western audience.
(2) The various elements that are described are the result both of inner examination (through meditation) and through clinical work with patients who describe various problems
(3) The dominant form is case studies, which reveal what people themselves describe. Although this certainly can be influenced heavily by prompts, the people interviewed in this case seemed relatively free of leading questions. The descriptions given are largely derived from the statements of people themselves, instead of from some authoritative text or bestiary.

I could also list weaknesses but don't see the need as I know of no other material available which treats these issues in such depth.

Also read my review on spirit releasement (baldwin)...So at one time I thought here is a doctor, thank goodness, he can add credibility to helping people with entities...problem is in this world calling on "the light" or "guides" or "anything else" is what is creating the damn things. So you will go deeper and deeper into "their" world all the while thinking you are "helping". Better off reading about self realization and awareness but NOT in ANY eastern, religious, or new age doctrines. What started me on a path BACK to SANITY was www.clarity-of-being.org
