I couldn't disagree more with your other customer. This is an INCREDIBLE CD!!! Patrick Bruel is a phenomenol artist whose talent is unsurpassed. This is an amazing tribute to these classic songs. Bruel's interpretations are right on! He has done a superb job at reviving truly timeless sounds. I highly recommend this record.

1.0 out of 5 stars bof !
what a pity to see such french goods of the 30' et 40' songs sung by such a voiceless singer who always seems to have a broken voices; this style may fit the italian song but certainily the frenh tradition. Forget it Go and buy the originals : Damia, Berthe silva, Florelle... with their wonderful loud, really parisian nostagic voices ... and have a look et the younger...

5.0 out of 5 stars My New Favorite CD, September 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Entre Deux (Audio CD)
I bought this CD in France in June; I love the style and the duets with such wonderful French artists as Charles Aznavour, Renaud, Johnny Hallyday, Francis Cabrel and Jean-Jacques Goldman. If you like music from the 30's and 40's, you will surely enjoy these remakes. Some of them are very jazzy but they never depart too far from the original style. When I listen to this music I feel like I'm back in Paris, not only in space but in time.

5.0 out of 5 stars He just keeps getting better, February 2, 2003

I love this album! The duets with Aznavour, Cabrel and Goldman are my favorites, but the whole album, filled with tracks from the 30s and 40s, is on permanent rotation in my CD player. Bruel's voice is perfect for these standards, and the duet concept really works here. Love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars What a gift, March 27, 2006

This review is from: Entre Deux (Audio CD)
I am a big fan of Bruel, yet I was not prepared for such a treat as this CD set. Of course, the songs are classic and remind me of old French movies, but the fun I felt from all the artists as they sang together put a giant smile on my face. They had a great time and it shows. If you love the language and the music of France...you will love this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bruel sings the French music of the 1930's through the 1950's, January 22, 2006

What a wonderful introduction to the great French singers of the 1930's through the 1950's! I loved hearing the songs that were made famous by Charles Trenet, Jean Sablon, Arletty, Frehel, Yves Montand, Tino Rossi, Maurice Chevalier etc.

There are wonderful songs here, well interpreted by Bruel by himself and with guest artists. I especially loved "La Complainte de la Butte" a song written by Jean Renoir for his movie "French Cancan"; "Quand on se promene au bord de l'eau" is a very lively rendition of a song made famous by Jean Gabin.

Bruel does duets with Charles Aznavour, Danielle Darrieux, Alain Souchon, Jean-Jacques Goldman,Francois Cabrel, Zazie and other well-known artists.

These songs bring back a former era of great French singers and song. This CD is worth buying if you like French music.

5.0 out of 5 stars For French people only!, February 5, 2003

Do not listen to Francesca she is too young to appreciate this album! This is a treasure for any Frenchman over 55. Patrick Bruel gives a fresh interpretation to old classics that are etched in the memory of many of us from the hexagone. Bravo! to Patrick and the other artists who helped put this album together.

1.0 out of 5 stars No improvement on originals, February 21, 2003

Greatly disappointed. Bruel's voice is flat, its musical range very limited. To supplement this serious impediment he switches to a speaking voice to simulate romance and passion. None of this works. A compilation of the original songs by the original singers would have made a fantastic CD.

2.0 out of 5 stars un cd totalement nul; une honte pour la France, July 1, 2002
By
This review is from: Entre Deux (Audio CD)

- An unbearable cd, though 2 songs out of 24 are not bad: the duet with Aznavour and the one with Aubert. By doing this cd, Bruel proves that he has never been able to sing; and most of all that he is an embarrassment to France when singing such classics. An album to be avoided at all costs; buy at your own risk, if you wish to bust your ears.
