5.0 out of 5 stars Get a Measure of Understanding and Control, December 9, 2005
This review is from: Entrepreneur Magazine's Ultimate Guide to Workers' Compensation Insurance (Paperback)
The states mandate that employers carry workman's compensation insurance for most workers.

The first confusion comes with the word 'most.' The first thing that might save you a good bit of money is to know exactly who needs to be covered in your company. That sounds silly, but it's true. For instance some states don't require an employee to be covered if he or she is paid solely by commission.

In this book you particularly want to read the 'war stories' where actual incidents, either accidents or administrative actions are reported. Some of the rulings stagger the imagination. It is only by knowing the facts and having them at your fingertips that you stand a chance of winning the battle.

This book gives a general introduction to the situation, followed by suggestions of what you can do to understand the rules in your state. The whole concept is to give you the information you need to treat Workman's Comp like any other business expense where you have at least some control.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Entrepreneur Magazine's Ultimate Guide to Workers' Compensation Insurance (Paperback)
This book is an excellent review of the current system of workers compensation coverages. It is dead-on accurate in its description of the potholes one can encounter - NCCI ratings, premium audits and others. I thought Mr. Priz was generous in his kindness to auditors and underwriters, who are the source of most of the problems and also the solution to most of the problems.

I am going to buy several copies for my clients.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Information, August 11, 2006
This review is from: Entrepreneur Magazine's Ultimate Guide to Workers' Compensation Insurance (Paperback)
This book describes in detail information I have never gotten from my insurance agent. It gives you a detailed insight into the world of workers' compensation and has been very useful in helping me to make sure that what we do as a company is under the right classification. It would have been difficult to argue our case without the knowledge I obtained from this book. Worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars Author's Note on an Updated Edition, May 4, 2010
This review is from: Entrepreneur Magazine's Ultimate Guide to Workers' Compensation Insurance (Paperback)
I just wanted to suggest to readers who are interested in the Kindle edition of my book, "Ultimate Guide to Workers' Compensation Insurance" that a newer version of the book is now available through Amazon, as either a physical book or a Kindle book, under the title: "Workers Compensation: A Field Guide for Employers". This new book contains all the material that so many have found helpful in "Ultimate Guide" but the newer "Field Guide" was updated significantly in 2010 and also contains some expanded material not to be found in "Ultimate Guide".

The newer "Workers Compensation: A Field Guide for Employers" shows the author's name as "Ed Priz" with co-author Scott Priz, rather than "Edward J. Priz" as is shown on the Ultimate Guide, but by either name the author is the same.

I would encourage interested readers to order the newer "Workers Compensation: A Field Guide for Employers" for two reasons, one selfless and one a little selfish. The selfless reason is that, as already noted, the Field Guide contains updated and expanded content, while keeping everything that was in Ultimate Guide. The selfish reason is that the old publisher of Ultimate Guide to Workers Compensation Insurance is not paying me royalties on the Kindle edition. Worker's Compensation: A Field Guide For Employers

3.0 out of 5 stars For businesses, not for injured workers. For that you need look elsewhere, November 28, 2007
This review is from: Entrepreneur Magazine's Ultimate Guide to Workers' Compensation Insurance (Paperback)
This book is aimed at businesses. For the injured worker, the best guide out there is How to Win a Worker's Compensation Claim in Illinois. Even if you don't live in Illinois, this layman's guide gives you a very good overview of the Workers' Compensation system.
