This review is from: Entrepreneurs, Managers, and Leaders: What the Airline Industry Can Teach Us About Leadership (Hardcover)
This remarkable book provides an overview of the evolution of the airline industry, literally from the ground up, with particular focus on the personalities and leadership styles of airline CEOs. The theme is that the success or failure of each airline has had much to do with the matching of CEO leadership skills with the challenges of the concurrent business environment, and that different skill-sets are needed at different stages in a company's lifespan. This is hardly a new concept, but it is presented in a manner that makes it a good read for anyone who wants to know more about the airlines we now have and how they became what they are. It is well-written, well-researched, and well-documented. It is small enough to take on your next plane ride, entertaining enough to limit your high altitude napping, and detailed enough to provide some insights for seasoned travelers, even those with considerable business background. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Individual Importance, October 24, 2010

This review is from: Entrepreneurs, Managers, and Leaders: What the Airline Industry Can Teach Us About Leadership (Hardcover)
This insightful book presents a rarely glimpsed viewpoint. Many books talk about 'systems' and organization structures, which while necessary, are rarely sufficient for an organization or industry to grow, especially in a hostile atmosphere. How we went from the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk, to the moon and space stations, is due in a very large part to just 6 individuals. Amazing! To solve many of todays problems, this type of thinking will be necessary.
