Not the book for me.,
By
This review is from: The Young Entrepreneur's Guide to Starting and Running a Business (Completely Revised and Updated) (Paperback)
I am a 22 year old entrepreneur and I mistakely thought this qualified me as young. This book does have some relatively good insights on basic business priciples. The problem is that you have to wade through endless stories of other entrepreneurs, which often leave you wondering about their relevance. The stories are often about high school kids who make $30/week selling sunglasses or renting video games. I think this book would be perfect for a young person from the ages of 12 - 18 who wants to get a taste of running their own business and learn the fundamentals of economics. What I was looking for was a book that was aimed for someone serious about making their business their life. I think this book is either a 5 star or a 1 star. If you are absolutely clueless about economics and business and need to be motivated you will find this book very good. If you already have the motivation and possess a natural business acumen then stop reading this review, because this isn't the book for you, either.

Steve Mariotti teaches the core concepts of business in a succinct and entertaining way. Each chapter, beginning with an inspirational and cool quote, defines and explains an important business fundamental. His book is interactive, with Q &A and a sample and blank business plan so that you can do the work right in the book!I highly recommned it to anyone - age 12 to age 90.

More Inexperienced than Young,

I still haven't taken the plunge in starting my own business, but I've been doing a lot of reading about doing so. When I picked this up from the library, I expected to take one evening to zip through it. However, it seems to cover the basics of running a business very well. If you have already started your own business, you've probably already dealt with most of the issues presented here. If you're new to the business world (young or old), this book deserves serious consideration.

This is one of the better basic books on starting a business aimed at kids. Clearly written and organized, the book helps any fledgling entrepreneur understand basic business concepts, learn how to read and understand financial statements, create a sound business plan, and manage finances intelligently. There are good resources suggested in each chapter. And there's a sample business plan and workbook included as well. Good starting point.

I regret buying this book. It's not a guide for young people to starting your own business unless you call part time babysitting a business or selling your goods at a flea market as having your own business. The "businesses" the author has in mind are are, for example, selling homemade goods to your friends or anyone else you can get to buy them. If you call having a lemonade stand a business, then this book may pertain to you.

I liked this book a lot. I bought it in high school and it was a good book. It was a little elementary at some points. It talked about running a business such as T-Shirt Printing(where you put designs on a shirt and sell it). A lot of the information was great though. If youre in college it may be a waste of time it's more high school. It's for those who don't know much about businesses.

A Great Book, Just Not on It's Own,

This review is from: The Young Entrepreneur's Guide to Starting and Running a Business (Completely Revised and Updated) (Paperback)
Great book, really. It breaks down some of the more confusing aspects of business, and, puts them on a more understandable level. It takes the heavy, technical business jargon, and, makes it easier for the average Young Entrepreneur to understand, and, use in a classic real-life situations. It even comes with interactive pages, examples, and, tons of good hints.
My only problem is that this is not a good stand-alone book. I actually began to read this book in the library, then, I put it back, knowing that it wasn't for me just yet. Since then, I had purchased several other books, then, finally, I came back and purchased this one. I'm not saying that this is a horrible book, but, no. I wasn't able to use to book properly until I used several others. Also, it speaks more about selling pre-made items then it does going into your own business by making things you wish, like baked goods. (Another thing, I like the flea market suggestions and such. While I could never see myself choosing to do that as a business, it's a great start-up idea.) (On the quality of the product: It was amazing, even better then what was promised. The seller did amazing with this product.) |
