This book contains a selection of papers arising from an international conference, held in Maratea (Italy), June 26-28, 1991.

Section 1 presents a discussion on the perspectives of entropy and energy dissipation. The applications of entropy in hydrology are considered in Section 2, water resources in Section 3, and hydraulics in Section 4.
