5.0 out of 5 stars A very useful book!
I have had The Envelope Mill for several years, and when I pulled it out AGAIN and made envelopes from last year's wall calendar of antique map reproductions, I thought it high time I sang the praises of this marvelous 30-glossy-pages book. This is an ok book. If you have envelope templates already then I'd say pass on this book because the text isn't that novel. There just isn't much to it......select a page from a magazine, plop the template down, draw around the shape of the template, cut it out and glue it up. Voila. I'm actually surprised the author was able to turn this topic into a book. It does...

I have had The Envelope Mill for several years, and when I pulled it out AGAIN and made envelopes from last year's wall calendar of antique map reproductions, I thought it high time I sang the praises of this marvelous 30-glossy-pages book. It's a great jump-start to creativity -- lots of appealing photos -- and I love the sturdy plastic templates for 3 different sized envelopes for cards and letters. They're clear, so you can move the template around on your paper until you get a pleasing design, then trace around it, cut, fold, glue the flaps, and voila! The author tells how to incorporate photos, make lined envelopes, and even invites you to adjust the template to make custom-sized envelopes. This is a quick-gratification craft for adults, as well as for kids who are old enough to use scissors, and it encourages all of us to send more letters and cards.

If you love to create your greeting cards, you will love this book. It shows you how to create your own envelopes to go with your cards. The book gives the printed information on this as well as three templates which will make envelopes for practically every need. Never throw away old gift wrap again - make an envelope.

The whole book is valuable. The templates are very useable. I made a few from calendars, etc., but then moved on to printing pages on the computer with our scanned photos. Using the templates, I was able to create very special envelopes customized to the recipient. Very rewarding. Thanks to Haila Harvey for sharing her wonderful ideas with us. And thanks to the TV craft show that introduced me to the book.

What fun! Seems simple..........envelope templates, make your own envelopes! But I never realized how much fun it would be to make envelopes out of funky junk mail, magazine pages, old sheet music. My friends love to receive mail from me and the post office has even commented on how cool my "mail" is! This book is a must have, it's one of the best books I own. A bang for your buck!

I first saw this book on a craft show. I just had to have it! For two months all I did was make envelopes. I made them out of everything and anything. Now my favorite is using old calendars. I even buy calendars from the dollar store to make them.

I'm actually surprised the author was able to turn this topic into a book. It does have a few unique ideas like using special scissors like the deckle edge to cut out the envelope shape. It might be a good book for someone just starting to play around with templates and making envelopes. I was just looking for something for more advanced mail art.

I was making wonderful cards in five minutes! Now I want to send something to everyone! I even mailed a note to my brother just to show him the envelope! Warning: Once you start, you won't want to stop. Everything you see will look like a great idea for an envelope!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best quick craft, January 11, 2001

This review is from: The Envelope Mill: Recycle Magazines into Beautifully Crafted Envelopes/Book and Templates (Spiral-bound)
I love to do crafts but have very limited time. The Envelope Mill gives instructions for a creative, useful craft project that can be completed within minutes using recycled materials. Based on guidelines in the book, I save magazine covers, ads, and calendars with interesting graphics and make envelopes for cards I create on the computer--saving the cost of the book many times over. The translucent envelope templates provided allow you to easily position each design to best advantage for the size envelope you are creating. I get a great deal of enjoyment from fitting the design to the envelope, and recipients are fascinated with the results.
