I bought this after our old school Vicks humidifer started spurting out water instead of steam. I really didn't want to spend this much money on a humidifier, but I didn't want to keep replacing them either.

I did a fair amount of research on this one and I received it last week. So far, it's much easier to fill than the Vicks. I can put it in the tub and it's full in no time. I love the carrying handle too! It is fairly quiet, as compared to the old Vicks humidifier and on the low setting you can barely hear it. However, there is a loud glug glug glug as the water enters the steam chamber. My son hasn't been woken by it so I guess it's not that big of an issue. The output is good, and so far, I've been able to run this nightly on Low, 70% for three to four nights without a refill.

After a full week of nightly use, the heating element was 2/3 covered with scale, even with using the mineral absorbtion pads. The pad wasn't hard and inflexible so I can continue to use it. But I decided to clean it anyway. Filling it with vinegar and using an old toothbrush cleaned the scale off within a few minutes. I guess we have fairly hard water here in Georgia.

I'm not entirely sure what the hygrometer on the display is for, and it doesn't seem entirely accurate to me. The display is also very hard to read at night. You almost have to be right on top of it to read the numbers. The display backlight is light blue and the numbers display in a darker blue. So if you are not viewing it up close at the right angle, the entire readout disappears. That is the only real design flaw of this humidifier.

The world of humidifiers is scary indeed. You may end of paying a lot for something that only lasts a few months, or makes monster like gurgling noises throughout the night.
My personal experience is that in spite of its drawbacks this unit is the most reliable and longest lasting. I've had it 4 years and running and when it finally gave up I bought the same unit again.
Pros:
Large 2.5 gallon tank (you'll only have to fill it once a day for a medium sized room).
Easy to operate.
Easy to clean.
Cheap mineral absorption pads.

Cons:
slight gurgling sound may annoy some.
bright blue LED display too bright (but you can cover it).
Hard water deposits may need to be removed.

Overall, highly recommended as this unit lasts and does its job.

I loved all the nice features of this product, and ordered two of them. My first one had to be returned twice due to a burning odor emanating from the machine, something I deemed unacceptable. And on BOTH of them, the red light indicating it needs to be refilled comes on (and thusly the machine turns off), when there is PLENTY of water inside. It's too bad, I had high hopes for this product. It's just too poorly made to recommend to anyone.

the humidifier does the job - very quiet - the mist is very fine thus the carpet in the bedroom does not get wet - we do refill it every evening - every other night would be better, but it's not that big a deal - we highly recommend this to anyone with small children or those living in a dry or very cold climate - have purchased this for both our children's babies' rooms -

My hubs had the older version of this before we got married, and it's been so dry this winter that we ended up putting it in our baby's room. We keep it on low at 50%, and we can definitely see a change in the way she's been sleeping. It isn't too loud, and I think the background noise it makes helps her sleep through the night.

We ended up buying this one for our room. We keep our door open, so it's not as effective as it could be, but even on low at 45% I can notice a difference and breathing is much easier/less painful. It's not loud at all (on the settings mentioned before), and so far we haven't had any leaking issues. My hubs did put it on High 50% once, and it was too loud for me--but I'm a light sleeper.

I purchased under the slant/fin brand and used for 2 seasons. The back lit display will light up an entire room at night. Might bother some people. The fan used internally to cool something started to make quite a racket after season 1. I opened up the unit and took a look. Simply a cheap motor assembly with loose bearings, but can't replace (I searched), and I don't dare remove for fear of fire. So unit is trash now for my purposes. There was quite a bit of mineral deposit build-up on the heating element, but I could scrap it off and I think normally should get 4-5 years before this goes beyond the point of no return. Heavy water unit if filled completely (lots of H2O) but I didn't mind. I could put a gallon a day into the air in a bedroom running only at night. The electronic controls with percent humidity adjustment are a joke for anything larger than a closet as the unit really can't put that much humidity in the air. Too bad about the fan motor - a $1.50 part destroys a $120 unit. You can take a chance and buy a unit, might be just the motor I got, but I saw other reviews complaining about the same noise.
