5.0 out of 5 stars This is a GREAT composter! April 6, 2011
Color Name:Black
I've had my Envirocycle for 3 years. I bought it from someone on Craigslist after it had been used for a year. Now, being it it's 4th year of life, I can tell you it works JUST LIKE NEW. I love it. I have a second composter (different rotating one) also, realizing early on that one was not enough, since there comes a time when you need to just stop adding to it and let it "cook". The 2-composter system works perfectly for our single-family composting needs. I use the compost in my flower beds, vegetable gardens, on my fruit trees, and around as many shrubs and plants as it will cover. I used to buy and use Miracle Grow, but honestly, this works just as well. Really, my plants LOVE compost and thrive with it. It's FREE and reduces the amount of trash we take out.

The envirocycle is great for several reasons:

- It rotates on it's own base, so you don't need to turn it w/ a pitchfork or anything.
- It's large enough on the inside to hold plenty of composting material. I rarely fill it completely.
- The base will fill with liquid, or "composting tea" that I use to water my potted plants, a unique feature of compost bins.
- It's easy to rotate, using the grooves around the bin. My son has been turning it by himself for the last 3 years, and he just turned 11. My other "Tumbleweed" composter he has more trouble with.
- It's easy to access, as far as the height goes. If I want to reach in and break up clumps of decayed whole fruit that occasionally gets tossed in, it's easy to reach.

But here's the biggest reason I'm writing this review: I emailed the company a couple weeks ago because somehow, the cap to the bottom portion has become lost and now the "tea" spills out when it gets full. I offered to buy another cap if they could send me one. They replied the same day, saying they would send it at no charge. Today, I rec'd TWO free replacement caps in the mail from Enviorcycle Systems in Canada. I live in So. California.

THAT'S customer service. Just another plus, but really, the composter is totally worth it. Even on Craigslist, I paid half of what it's selling for today - used. I could probably even sell mine today for what I paid for it since it works exactly the same as it did the day I bought it (but of course, I wouldn't). It is that well made. I've looked for them several times since, but they are not easy to find used. There are others that don't rotate, require hand turning of the contents, and don't have the base for tea, but the Envirocycle is hard to find on Craigslist.

I'm thinking of helping my son bring composting to his elementary school and have been trying to decide which type of composter would work best - This one would be great. The kids could rotate it themselves and it's low enough they could watch the magic of decomposition happen and learn from it. I would definitely recommend this composter to anyone wanting to compost in their yards. It keeps the contents enclosed, aerated, and easily accessible.

I love mine!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great compost choice July 20, 2011

I like this purchase so far. It is out-of-the-box ready-to-go - no assembly required.

Things I like about it:
1. I didn't have to assemble anything. Brilliant.
2. Access spaces are limited so I haven't had an issue with critters or bugs - so far.
3. I was really worried about flies but that hasn't been an issue either - I'm treading slowly though and have only included limited food scraps.
4. Very easy to move. I raked some leaves and rolled the bin right off the base track and across the lawn. Super convenient.

Things I don't like about it:
1. The latch panel requires two hands to open - the hook is very tight. I guess it needs to be tight otherwise it might fly open when you spin it but it truly is a pain when I want to add some food scraps. I have to bring them outside, set them down, open the latch - ususally using the handle of a utensil to help me push the hook through to open it, then I can place the food inside.

Other Notes: It spins relatively easy however as soon as you put something of any weight in it, it's not as smooth. BUT it still is very easy to spin.

This is my first compost so feedback is based on rookie knowledge and experience. Overall, I'm happy with my choice. I did a ton of research reading forums and reviews - many sets require assembly, pieces break or snap, it's hard to move - once you pick a spot for it, it kind of has to stay there. With this compost, you don't need to worry about any of these things. It's so easy to move around - even if it's full, you can just roll it all over your yard. Happy composting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy composting April 24, 2011
By Erin

This is the second unit that I have purchased. I bought a second one because I had more to compost than could be accomodated in the first bin. The unit is compact, which fits my small outdoor space; it is easy to load and rotate. The base collects composte "tea," which is extremely valuable to have when watering your garden or potted plants; it is the perfect fertilizer. I am not sure what I expected, but it can be a bit tricky to unload the compost. I use a pitching fork, which is easier than using a shovel. I highly recommend this bin.

3.0 out of 5 stars composter
It came already assembled, which was great. Sturdy, heavy duty. But latch is very difficult to hope & close, and with it nearly full, I have to fight with it to make it turn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy install and easy to turn over.
This came in a large box and was easy to install. It's also very easy to rotate since the base has rollers. So far, it's worked great.

Having fun with the kids composting our scraps. Maybe not as much fun as a vermi-composter, but this should be more effective. Read more
